If anyone is nervous about actually saying their starting weight in a video, just don’t mention weight in the video and send it in via email at ceochallenge@dailyburn.com. The point of the video is to commit, tell your story, and get you motivated… not be embarrassing.

I understand there can be a massive difference in the accuracy between different methods of measuring body fat. For example, my scales say 35% body fat, the tape measure method says 27%.

Is there a preferred method of measuring? Or does it matter as long as we’re consistent with the method we use?

dixied: Yeah, I would say as long as you are consistent. Measuring body fat is difficult… I used the accumeasure calipers.

Thanks! Are calipers difficult to use on yourself?

I was looking into a place that uses near infrared body fat testing, but my understanding is that they aren’t significantly more accurate than calipers.

I plan on using my scale that shows body fat….I figure as long as I am only using that one method each time that I should be okay, right? As long as we are consistent and our method, right?

This came at a GREAT time for me. I had started loosing weight last December, was doing GREAT until the past few months when I have been slipping. This will get me back on track :)

For those who don’t have calipers or one of the other super-accurate methods of tracking body fat, I would suggest that you use YMCA’s formula to calculate it. It’s pretty much spot on for the average person and bases its estimate on a combination of weight, height, waist size, and gender. There’s a calculator available here: http://www.webcalcsolutions.com/Fitness-Calcula…

Here’s my completely bland entry into the fat loss contest. I just moved and don’t really have a real camera on hand, so the Blackberry saved me, I guess. Pardon the terrible dress style in the video, I actually recorded it right after getting back from the gym. The hat is only on backwards because the last thing I did at the gym today was pushups: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPNga6d7BY8

With that said, stats: 181.6lbs, approximately 22% BF (1st year of grad school suuuucked). Goals: 160lbs, 15% BF. How I’m going about it: 5-6 workouts per week, including weight training and at least 1hr of cardio per workout. Diet is about 1800-2200 calories per day.
