I just discovered a new bar called PureFit. They are vegan and have 18 grams of protein. They are pretty yummy at 230 calories.

I am a big fan of the Eat Clean Diet and Clean Eating magazine. They are both very user friendly and I have found them extremely helpful.

The eternal quest in the fitness world…How do I gain muscle but lose fat? Just like life, it can be very hard to do 2 things at once.

To gain muscle you will need to eat more calories, at least more above what your maintanence calories should be. You need to give your body the fuel it needs to build the muscle. If you focus on eating clean and giving your body the right kind of fuel it can help minimize body fat gain. Having said that, during this “bulking” phase you may see some fat gain as well. Don’t be discouraged! It would be nice if we could direct the calories where we want, but we can’t.

Just stay focused on long term goals. It might be helpful to look at not just pounds but body composition. 2 people at the same weight can look very different based on body fat%. Good luck!

I agree with wkyedengel. What are your triggers? What are you doing differently on the weekends that affects your eating habits? My issue was alway social situations. I would tell myself a litte on the weekends won’t hurt. But it the long run it does. Look at what the trigger is and work on changing it.

You might take a look at “Clean Eating Magazine”. They usually include a 2 week meal plan. Might not be enough calories, but would be a good base for you to make some modifications to.

I am currently doing the “New Rules of Lifting for Women” program, Its different than what I have tried in the past, but I am enjoying it. Lots of compound exercises and I do full body workout each time. My reps, sets and rest time vary for each phase. I am also doing additional core training.

Are you getting quality sleep? My husband had terrible issues with fatigue. He shaped up his diet and work outs, but also he started to get better sleep when we got a new mattress and minimized the lower back pain that was waking him up. Not getting quality sleep can really throw you for a loop.

I agree with aheath. You cannot out train a bad diet. Focus on clean unprocessed foods: lean protein, nuts, fruit, vegetables and low fat dairy.

BMR is important. If one does not provide the body enough calories to support basic functions then it can cause lasting effects to the metabolism. BMR or RMR (resting metabolic rate) is what your body needs to do nothing but sit and sleep. It sounds like you are working out, so you need to be able to support that activity as well as your normal day to day activities.

I would let Daily Burn calculate your goals based on your desire to lose weight and current stats. You want to keep exercising and eating clean to provide your energy. Follow their recommendations for 4 weeks and see how you feel and what progress you have made. At that point make adjustments if you need to. I am a firm believer that slow and steady are the best way to go when it comes to weight loss.’

After looking at your nutrition log I can make a couple of suggestions as well:
Try substituting egg whites for some of the whole eggs and add some veggies to your morning eggs.
Your protein uptake looks a little low, add more lean sources like soy products, chicken or fish.
I see several processed foods-hotdogs, meatballs, etc. I would try to move away from some of those for cleaner foods. Make your own meatballs from ground turkey instead of buying frozen ones. Same with the burgers.

Hope that helps.

The New Rules of Lifting for Women also presents some challenging work outs. It provides home workout alternates for those we who don’t go to the gym. Women don’t put on muscle the way men do, so you really have to challenge yourself. Don’t be afraid of heavy weights.

It could be your body composition is changing. Are you able to measure your body fat and track that in addition to weight?

Your body adapts very quickly. I might suggest changing up your workout. Change the type of training (new weight routine) or a new form of cardo. Usually when you hit a plateau it means your body has adapted to what your doing and you need a change to get things going again.

Health food section is the best place to look. If you are near a Whole Foods you can grind your own. Its pretty yummy fresh! Same thing with cashew butter.

Have you ever tried high intensity interval training for your cardio? That might something new to consider. A lot of people seem to respond well to it.
