I ran on my treadmill this morning and the calories burned displayed there indicates nearly 100 more than gyminee calculates.

What’s going on here?

Okay, that’s what I did, but it makes me suspicious that the calorie count for my normal routine (an outdoor walk/jog) is too low b/c I usually go .6 miles farther in the same time I used the treadmill, and it’s coming in lower than even the treadmill calc.

Any suggestions on how to better estimate my calorie burn? What I’m doing is intervals…3 min walking, 3 min jogging, so it’s also possible that I’m off in how much distance I’m doing on each. It’s just so hard to come up with numbers that make sense.

There is no scientific or nutrional evidence to support the claim that people should drink 8 8oz glasses of water per day. There is also evidence that contradicts the claims that you cannot be hydrated by soda or tea. In fact food is very hydrating, and not just the items you might think of (watermelon). Broccoli is 90% water, and is very hydrating.

What concerns me even more is that you can take this too far. Ever heard of “water intoxication?” It’s important not to overdo your water consumption, especially when you consider that you are already getting a lot of water intake from the food you eat.

Drinking large quantities of water rapidly can throw off the body’s balance of electrolytes, causing brain swelling and leading to seizures, coma or even death.

Here are a few articles (the last is a medical study) about water intoxication and the 8×8 myth:

http://www.nbc11.com/news/10746017/detail.html
http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp
http://ajpregu.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/...

Now the amount of fluids that Athena818 suggested are unlikely to cause water intoxication (it is estimated the woman who died in the first article had 256oz of water, and one would assume she was close to 150 lbs), but my point is that you need to consider your food intake, your climate, and your level of exercise when deciding how many glasses of water to have per day. The best advice is to drink a glass of water when you are thirsty.

Cafepress is a great place to let people purchase gear, because there are so many size and style options. I agree that you need to offer an array of sizes and some girlie (tank or tight fitting shirt) styles too.

I usually work out in exercise clothes, not cotton tees, but I would wear a cute tee around the neighborhood or town on the weekends or weeknights when not working out.

When I look at the available strength exercises, there are a ton of things I do that are missing. (I do my strength work out primarily with an exercise ball b/c I can’t go to the gym.)

For the interim, I’ve handled this by creating custom exercises. But I’m wondering how exercises get added?

I also noticed that there are even muscle groups that aren’t listed. For instance, there’s nowhere to list exercises I do for the buttocks and inner thigh.

Not currently, but since I’ve done so for a cumulative two years of my life, I think it’s appropriate to have some assistance out there for moms like me who are trying to keep ourselves AND our little ones healthy.

Yes, having USDA or “basic” foods sorted or designated separately from packaged foods is a good idea.

I’m looking for a gymbuddy as well. Preferably, another working mom would be ideal, since they’d be able to relate to my issues in scheduling and following through with my workout and diet plans.

I’m 33 and have always been relatively thin, but am starting to hit a point where I need to be more active in order to maintain it. I also just got back from vacation and gained 5 pounds that are being a bit too sticky. I am a big believer that the fit of your clothes is a better measurement than weight…but either way I’m too heavy right now.

If I miss a day or two, I tend to fall into a longer lapse. I am also a heavy computer user and can get sucked in and run out of time to do something more active.

My normal routine is to do a 30 min walk/run in the mornings before work, a long walk (60 min) on Saturday, and then do stregnth with an exercise ball in the evenings a few nights a week. I also do Yoga during lunch on Monday’s, and am considering joining a gym for strength training, but my husband thinks I won’t go and doesn’t want me to waste the money.

If you think you would be a good gymbuddy for me, please send a request! Thanks.

-Liz

I like Sigg bottles, but they are lined aluminum and I still question whether that’s safe. Plus the opening is small so it’s hard to put ice in them and you can’t put them in the freezer or dishwasher.

A better idea would be Klean Kanteen. They are stainless steel, have a wider mouth, and you can get them done in corporate logos. You can also wash them in the dishwasher so you can use them for a smoothie or shake if you wanted.

I have both varieties and I love my Klean Kanteens the best. (Although my Sigg is sitting next to me at my desk! LOL)

GREAT idea to offer a bottle that avoids BPA issues, minimizes the amount of oil used to produce it, and is attractive to boot.

Looking at the icons…
The icon in A doesn’t look like it has anything to do with gyminee to me.
I like B
I like C – it looks like motion or running or shot put for that matter
Don’t like D
Don’t like E

Otherwise, I really like logos A and C – particularly the multiple colors in C to highlight “GYM.”

The little guys at the bottom of D are really cool but why give them such low prominence?

I didn’t realize you were looking for more feedback.

My comments remain the same…other beverages provide SOME level of hydration, although you should discount their volume by about 50%-67% when calculating hydration. But either way you are adding to your calorie count without adding any real benefit. Water w/ added vitamins does not provide the other companion nutrients required to absorb those vitamins, so there’s really no point to drinking it. It’s a marketing ploy. I would avoid them altogether if you can, and extremely limit them if you cannot.

So drink regular water, when you are thirsty. That’s my final recommendation.

YAY! Glad you like my suggestion of Klean Kanteens! I look forward to hearing more.

For American Apparel, my biggest comment would be that I’d prefer a shirt that isn’t too sheer, and I prefer a scoop or v-neck to a traditional neck.

My favorite styles are Sheer Rib Shirred Cap Sleeve, which is nice and feminine, and the Baby Rib 1/2 sleeve u-neck T. But I wouldn’t wear either one of those to work out…I prefer shirts that are designed for cooling.

You could also do a tank, as that might be a little cooler layered over a sports bra.

I’m a mom of two who works full-time as a financial analyst. My hobbies are singing, computer gaming, and doing voiceovers for computer games. I also run an on-line bulk purchasing group for moms.

Just work and my kids makes it pretty difficult for me to find time to work out. Then if I have a big shipment or a recording deadline, that can come into play as well. I’ve been working on being more consistent, and just basically making myself find a way to take a break and work out.

(Exercising at work is not an option b/c of my schedule and the dress code—it would take me a long time to get “presentable” again after working out.)

My favorite would be english horseback riding. Nothing before or since has ever toned and strengthened my legs as much. If I get on a horse after not riding for a while, I really feel it because I still know how to do it, but my muscles just aren’t there.

But everyday stuff…absolutely recline dumbell flies. I love doing some exercises without having to use machines, and this is one where I really like the results. I always find a way to incorporate them into my routine.

I would love calf raises, but I find it difficult to challenge myself because my calves are so strong and I am too short for all of the machines.

I am so in! My daughter has been doing pushups for cheerleading, so I might see if she’ll do this with me. I think her coach would fall over if she could do 100 pushups (she is 5).

Of course, her form isn’t the best, but whatever! I would think it would improve as she gets stronger.

Last time I tried I did 10, but I wasn’t seeing what my max was, so I’m going to test tonight and see where it gets me. I usually do them with my feet on a stability ball…is that harder or easier than the standard way?

Oh, and how low to the ground should you go without touching? Any tips would be appreciated.
