I ate like a hog today… 4 meals and I don’t want anything else and I am at 1500 calories. I am so committed to the idea that I bought a mini fridge and put it right behind my desk. i literally have 1000’s of healthy calories just feet away and I am NOT hungry. How does anyone get 2k calories on broccoli, carrots, and lean meat? I could eat 2K calories on nachos in one sitting bit it’s hard to do with the “Good stuff”! Anyone have any strategies? |

You don’t have to eat only low-cal veggies and lean meat all the time. There are really many food you can choose between the greasy nachos and the spinach juice. I think it is your interest to look for them, because otherwise your ultra-clean will become frustrating after a while… and then when you reach your weighloss goal, you will only want to go back the most awful fast-junk-food. A few ideas to start : |

CCCC gives some good advice there. Nuts are a good way to go, as they have lots of essential fats and protein too. Also, fruit has lots of vitamins, and is higher in calories than veggies. Fish is also good, white fish as well as oily fish. The only thing I wouldn’t do, that CCCC recommends, is eat full fat diary foods. I avoid these because of their saturated fat content – and I want to avoid a heart attack! |

Hi bmtrnavsky, I would agree with the advice about eating more nuts. Avocados are also full of healthy fats and will help you top up your calories. |

I have the same problem, so I am going to add protein shakes and Carnation Instant breakfast to my daily regimen… I believe as I add more workout time to my daily routine my body will naturally want more food but in the meantime a little boost can’t hurt…. |

2,000 calories???? Is that because you’re training? Different between male/female? I set my daily calorie intake to 1000-1300 but I have lots to lose. Dang – I learn soooooo much on this site! Thanks everyone =) |

I hear you . . . it can be tough. I had a far easier time getting in my macros when I was on a TKD awhile back (Targeted Ketogenic Diet). SInce I’ve been off it, it’s definitley harder to eat all the food required. My cals for cutting are around 2300/2400 and I’ve run into the same thing you have where I seem to eat all day and force food down only to find that I ate 1900 cals. I just started trying a carb cycling approach to see how I like it and the high cal days are even harder, LOL. Protein shakes help me a lot—I get one in pre and post workout which usually helps to get the calories up where I need them by the end of the day. But it still can be a struggle. |

If you’re not hungry then you’re not hungry. If you’re loosing weight and your exercise goals are being met then who cares if you get 2000 calories. Not everyone fits the formulas. |

I agree with nuts….Almonds and Walnuts provide a good number of calories and good fat. I usually eat a mix of both with a small wedge of cheese. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/nuts/ Made the switch to almond butter also. |

Yesterday I had a good eating day… I ate three good meals and 3 protein shakes. I ended up fairly close to 40-30-30 and actually hit my calorie goal! YAY! I’m loosing weight and feeling good, but my training is about to ramp up BIG time and I just want to make sure I have my nutrition under control first… I’m actually eating some of my favorite things the big change for me is no fast food. Peanut butter is a good idea though it’s a easy way to pack another 100 calories or so in to breakfast. I may do that on toast with my eggs! |

I have the same problem, although my recommended daily caloric intake is only 1500. I struggle to make it to 1,000 most days. I’m eating lean meats, lots of salads, eggs, and plenty of other veggies. A friend of mine recommended I add avocados to my diet to up my calories without sacrificing my fat intake. I’m also looking at adding more fruit and nuts to my plan, so I’m hoping that helps. I’d just like to be able to meet my calories recommendations for the day without adding ‘junk’ food. |

I have added a extra protein shake and am making the other two a bit bigger. It seems to help. I am still not getting anywhere near the 2k mark, but I am getting over the 1750 minimum now and it’s all “good food”. YAY! |

How many nuts is too much in calories? I’d like to start including them in my diet but not sure how. Are peanuts ok? |

Sorry. But for me I think that’s too many carbs for my liking. |

I think a lot of it is habit… I have been really focused on it now and am not having too much problem. Now I am trying to dial in the 40-30-30 I usually end up a little light on protein and high in the fat, but falling right in the middle of my calorie bracket. Upping portion size and eating 6x per day helped a lot. |
