I’m not a coffee or a tea drinker. I’ve tried to drink it but don’t like the taste. I get either ice cappacinos or french vanilla mochas in the morning but they’ve got a ton of sugar and fat in it. what can i drink in the morning thats healthy but will give me that energy boost in the morning that won’t make me crash?

First issue: caffeine. You don’t like tea or coffee, so you aren’t drinking it for that reason. Your best bet? Skip the caffeine altogether.

For people who regularly consume caffeine, it doesn’t actually give you much of an energy boost. Your body develops a tolerance pretty quickly (which is why often, regular drinkers can still fall asleep after drinking it in the evenings). And what does affect you is simply overcomes the withdrawal symptoms caused by regular caffeine consumption in the first place (symptoms: headache, irritability, an inability to concentrate, drowsiness, insomnia and pain in the stomach, upper body, and joints)

It will take a week or two of no caffeine until the withdrawal goes away, but then you will feel energetic in the morning just having slept. You can read more about this on the “Wikipedia article”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffiene#Toleranc…

Second Issue: Fat is not the enemy. That is one of the biggest weight-loss myths out there. Yes, the type of fat makes a difference, but fat is not in itself bad. Low-fat products are almost universally garbage – fat tastes good, so to make the product edible they need to replace it with sugar or salt. Or both.

Like you said, sweetened coffee drinks are full of sugar and fat. Any caffeine boost is not worth the brutal nutrition deficit you put yourself in to start your day. DailyBurn is a great help in helping people realize how those little things add up.

It is best to give it up altogether. But I admit, I couldn’t quit either. I like a warm beverage in the morning. Especially during the cold months. I got used to drinking black brewed coffee or Americanos. I put enough Splenda or Stevia in there to make it sweet enough for me. I got used to it and enjoy it.

Yeah, you’ve really got to make your own – the ones you order are usually loaded! If you’re drinking the coffee because of it’s reported health benefits, you sure don’t want to screw it up by adding a bunch of unhealthy stuff. (Sounds like baked potatoes!) I love coffee, but I do like it light and sweet, so I brew it strong and then add vanilla soy milk and Splenda with fiber. At least they have some redeeming nutritional value! You can also buy sugar-free syrups like almond and hazelnut if you feel you must cover the coffee flavor but are determined to drink it.

I prefer a full breakfast with fresh fruit (usually the fastest carbs I get in the day) and a multivitamin. But if you’re insistent on getting caffine, I suggest spiced chai with whole milk and honey. Dairy fats are good for you. So is the protein, calcium and vitamin D in whole milk. And honey is the best natural sweetener.

A couple of different options:

1) Coffee with sugar free sweetener and splenda
2) Kroger sells these energy packs that you mix with a bottle of water. It is in the Crystal Light section. They taste good and have no sugar or calories.

Actually a big class of H2O is a really good way to wake up and rehydrate in the morning. If you workout in the morning have a small pre workout meal that has some protein and carbs. If you don’t workout in the a.m. try something natural with protein and fiber like greek yogurt and berries or a smoothie with fruit flax, and yogurt/milk.

I Burned 5,000 Calories!

I doubt that it’s the caffeine you feel after drinking the ‘american’ lattes//vanilla/chocolate/frappuccinos/whatever – but rather the sugar rush.

I could never stand coffee from retailers and stores, or when buying coffee and prepare it at home…

But when I once tried an espresso made from fresh coffee beans, it blew my mind, since then I buy raw coffee beans, roast them myself, grind them myself, and pull the most amazing coffees every single morning. Sweet, chocolate, hazelnuts, caramel, fruits – it’s all there in the coffee bean, as long as its fresh :)

I Lost 10 Lbs! I Lost 5 Lbs!

I’ve been drinking the same cup of coffee every morning for years (either a black coffee or plain espresso), and I still do get the caffeine rush. The only difference is that it isn’t as intense and doesn’t last as long.

According to wikipedia, complete tolerance results if you drink large amounts of caffeine (400 mg 3 times a day for a week) while incomplete tolerance results from less extreme usage, which is my experience.

Of course, I’m only one data point, so it very well could be placebo.
