Top Contender I Ran 100 Miles!

I eat under 1500 calories per day and run around 45 miles per week and yet I cannot lose weight – does anyone have any suggestions?

I have tried eating more calories which does not work (friends have suggested that I do not eat enough), each day I never hit my calorie, fat, nor carb target and am always way under and yet my weight has stayed exactly the same for the past four weeks.

Would appreciate any help.

(PS I am training for the London Marathon and a 32 mile ultrathon hence my level of activity, although I run all the year round).

Personally, I agree with your friends that you are WAY undereating. Under 1500 calories would be fine if you didn’t run, at all. You run enough to easily need another 1000 calories per day.

What do you weigh and how much are you trying to lose?

I weigh 10stone 2pound and would like to be around the 9.5 mark. I have not lost an ounce in 4 weeks.

Coaching_Bird, there could be a few different things going on but it is difficult to provide feedback based on the limited information.

What is your age, weight and height? Also, being that you’re training for a marathon, I’d also like to know your current body fat percentage.

Every person on this planet is a separate entity. We are all the same in that we are all human beings but we are all completely different from one another. We all come in different shapes and different sizes.

Hi there
I am a nutritionist working privately offering advice on weight loss, and many issues regarding eating healthy. Please check out my website if you require personalised advice and help on modifying eating behaviours. I have recently started the business and have had some positive feedback.

Good luck.

Hi there!

If you are not eating enough your body goes in to starvation mode. Which means that it protect itself by holding on to what ever it gets. This is why crash diets never work. As soon as people get to the weight they want they start eating properly again and the body takes a while to adjust, thats why peolpe moan that they put the weight back on. Give yourself a good month on a diet that hits all your goals and see what happens.

I do not know your height and age, or your body mass index—1500 calories may not be too little for you at all.

You are training for a marathon. There are different aspects of weight focus for you.

I am not a nutritionist, so I cannot say what is good or not for you. My recommendation is to look into some professional advice. Also, find out where you should be at at your age, height, weight, and activity level.

There are free calculators for BMR and BMI—and even a weight calculator to see if you are overweight at You have to look at the diet calculators at the top. Try those.

It will tell you if you are underweight. And if so, EAT!! lol

I hope you do GREAT at your marathon!
