So, my friends 21st birthday is coming up. I usually drink Redbull and vodka, or Jack and Coke, but now that I have cut out all the mixers, I dunno what to do. I know the obvious answer is just not to drink, but if I am forced into a drink, what should I have? I am trying to cut the carbs back as far as possible. |

I’d gather a light beer might do or if it’s your thing, jack and diet coke? Just look up the calories of things before you go and then make a plan. Or better yet, offer to be the designated driver – then there’s no pressure to drink. |

I don’t know if you’re a wine drinker but a 5 oz glass of white wine, for example Charonnay is 108 Cal and only 2 g Carbs, a 5 oz glass of red wine, Fetzer Merlot is 102 Cal and 2.4 g Carbs. |

The designated driver idea is the best if you want a legitimate reason to not drink. Otherwise, it may depend on the diet you’re on. For a low carb diet, generally the rule of thumb is that any clear or very light-colored alcohol (not counting beer) is pretty close to 0 carbs—vodka, light rum and clear tequilas. Mix with a diet soda and you’re relatively ok on the low carbs, but you will get empty calories from the alcohol of course. Whatever your favorite drink might be, look up the calories for those, as well as any anticipated shots of alcohol your friends may want to take like Patron shots. But be careful of the sweet, mixed shots. More importantly, this is a somewhat special occasion so have fun! You can always get back on track the next day, with plenty of water to recover from potential hangovers. Just don’t go find people turning 21 every weekend to celebrate with! |

If you prefer beer over liquor, Michelob Ultra is the lowest carb (2.6g) with the most alcohol (4.1%). Not that I think you want the strongest alcohol it’s just that Budweiser Select 55 has 1.9g carb but only 2.4% alcohol (seems like you’re paying for a lot of water). Interestingly, the ultra-low alcohol O’Douls has13.3g carb with0.4% alcohol. BTW, these amounts are for 12oz. |

Vodka and a little soda with lime is an okay option and Jack with water and lime is alright too. I know Jack and water sounds gross but the water does a real good job of diluting the intensity of Jack. |

“If I am forced into a drink, what should I have?” If you’re ‘forced’ into that drink, do you really have an option? If you do have an option it seems that option could actually be not to have a drink. It seems that the real issue is that you want to drink so what would a good drink option that doesn’t contain alot of sugar? Try a vodka and club soda with a twist of lime. |

When I’m calorie-restricted, I consider my goals to be my “budget” for the day. If I know I’ve got something “expensive” coming up, I save up for it by changing what I eat earlier in the day so I still have room in the budget when the time comes. It’s typically not terribly difficult to adjust for a drink or two. |

Yeah, i agree with what most have said so far. this is for a special occasion, so having a drink or two wont hurt, as long as you get back to your regular diet afterward. |

Vodka Waters! It’s not as bad as it sounds except I can’t handle them anymore after ruining vodka for myself a few months ago. |

I have always found in my experience that sticking to a spirit like vodka or gin and a light mixer will not disrupt your routine too much. Also I have a knight in shining armour trick here – slap one of these on the night before. http://viepatch.com/products/vie-hangover-relie… Hope this helps! |

Try Voli Vodka. It has about ~30% less calories than the regular vodka brands. Check this nutrition fact sheet out http://bit.ly/rVuwQF |

I think vodka and diet tonic water with lots of lime is the best. You can dilute it with water and get a decent buzz. Also, alternate water in between your alcoholic drinks so you can save calories as well as NOT get a hangover. |

You could just… Get ready for it…. Not drink. Waste of empty calories. -EK |

Replace coke with diet coke, or your redbull with diet redbull….thn you are only geting the calories from the alcohol which…you’d be getting anyway if you want to drink…. |

Smirnoff ice light can’t really get you tipsy is the thing for me. So I recommend vodka and diet tonic water with lots of lime. I just checked out the above link about Voli and that seems pretty legit. I think I’ll check it out. |
