Hey there. I had registered for this site and even bought the premium thing so I could use the meal planner, and then my internet broke lol. Anyways, it’s fixed now and I want to set up a meal plan for myself.

I have absolutely no problem with habits and routines. I’m fine eating the same foods day in and day out.

Basically, I want this to be my standard plan, please critique:

Pre-Workout
—Protein Shake

Breakfast
—Oatmeal, a fruit, glass of milk, piece of toast.

Snack
MRP bar

Lunch
—Bowl of cereal, cheese stick, yogurt

Snack
—A fruit, peanuts

Dinner
—Chicken breast, cucumber, tomatoes

And that’s all, I can change out the fruits/vegetables so I don’t get bored, but that’s not too important to me. The MRP bar as my first snack is because most of the time I’m in class and that’s all I really have time for.

Is this a feasible diet? I seem to come up short on calories, grains, and some other stuff but I just can’t see myself eating any more than this. I’m really not a big eater, I have to force myself to eat breakfast at all. Sometimes I’ve gone over a day without eating and never felt hungry.

I’ve tried to find diet plans, but they usually have all these complicated foods like stirfries and stuff… I just don’t eat that. I eat plain foods lol. Cooking a chicken breast is about as much cooking as I ever do.

Please help, lol! =D

What is an MRP bar?

What kind of cereal is it? And what kind of oatmeal is it?

Why no post-workout shake? I tihnk there is a (pretty) unified agreement that without that you won’t build as much muscle. Some carbs and protein would be good then. Or just some lowfat milk.

It looks pretty good to me, except for maybe some kind of protein right before bed. Currently I’m in the habir of choking down pasteurized egg whites with some lemon juice, but I’m crazy. Maybe you could eat another piece of chicken before bed?

Oh, wait, are you looking to bulk or cut, primarily?

Well, I heard the term MRP bar on this site, I’m pretty sure it’s Meal Replacement? If not, oops lol.

It’s whatever cereal I have in the house. It’s my one vice lol. I eat healthy in every way except for cereal, I love the stuff. Cap’n Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, Fruity Pebbles, I know it’s not good for me, but it’s not terrible for me either. And it’s usually Quaker Instant Oatmeal.

As for the shake, I put Pre-Workout but really it’s during the whole thing. Quarter before I start, quarter halfway through, then the last half when I’m done.

Why a protein before bed? I thought you weren’t supposed to eat after 8pm or something?

And I’m looking to lose a little bit of weight, but mostly tone up. I’m tryin to do that whole “body is a temple” thing and eat only pure foods (not counting cereal, that stuff’s addictive) but DailyBurn’s Meal Planner keeps telling me I’m not meeting my nutrition goals :(

Cereals are actually not as good for you as you might think – most of them have so much sugar that they are basically candy in a bowl. Now as long as you eat them in moderation, it’s not a big deal – just realize that it might be calories in that could be better spent on other foods. Not picking on you or anything, just recently looked into how crazy bad some cereals are.

I wouldn’t worry too much about DB’s planner – I think it overestimates calories for some people.

I would try adding more vegetables to bulk up your meals – especially at lunch. Maybe and some protein too? I like having a hard boiled egg and you can actually buy these pre-boiled at the store.

Alright, I guess I can attempt to eat cereal about once a week or so. It’s just so damn tasty lol! I’ll try to eat some eggs and veggies for lunch.

So should I not worry about the other stuff like amount of grains required per day, oils required per day, etc? Because to get those amounts I would explode lol.

I never do – I focus mostly on a macronutrient balance, fruits, veggies and water. I try to look for ways to add veggies to most meals. Like a sandwich needs lettuce and tomato – that kind of thing.

Think of cereal like cookies. That’s essentially what most of them are. Once you think of them in that light, you’ll find you place them more appropriately in your diet.

As for your meal plan, you’re really quite light on vegetables. You should try to have vegetables at every meal, if possible. As for the snack between class, I’d shoot for real food instead of a glorified candy bar (which is what nearly all meal replacement bars are). Eat a piece of fruit or an ounce of almonds.

Instant oatmeal often is quite high in sugar as well, and isn’t as healthy as regular slow-cooked oatmeal. Are you eating dormitory food? Is your diet limited by what they serve in your cafeteria? Would love to help you improve your meal plan a bit.

When planning out your meals, I agree with TheAng that it’s better to focus on macronutrients, and eating enough fruits and veggies than it is to worry about grains and oils. In fact, I rarely eat the amount of grains DB recommends because I get most of my carbs from fruit and vegetables.
