Hang in there, gains happen and it is frustrating. Vent a little but then you just pick yourself up and move on. Enjoy the journey! |

Unless you ate 7000 cals over your maintenance cals it’s not a true weight gain-it’s water. Step back from the scale-weight loss is not usually linear and daily fluctuations occur. :) |

If you really want to see this – try weighing yourself multiple times in one day.. don’t do this on a regular basis but you will see the fluctuations. I once saw a 2 lbs difference in a matter of half an hour. (yes, I was really bored one day… ) |

Yeah, I assumed it must’ve been water or something because a couple days later I was back down. I’v ebeen focused on my measurements and I’ve lost 1.5 in. on my bust 2.5 on my waist and 1.5 on my hips. That has made me feel a bit better. |

@hzomayah, I recommend to most of my clients that they only weight themselves once each week, and ideally the same day/time for each weigh in (e.g., upon waking on a Friday morning). To many people get thrown out of kilt based on the number on the scale, not taking in to account all of the reasons that a number may go up (or down) including excretion, water retention or dehydration, menstrual cycle, glycogen stores et al. Use the scale as a tool; not as a vehicle for validation. |

I actually prefer knowing what it is day to day. That way I know if I am seeing results, or if I am eating too much, or if I am retaining water. Weighing once a week doesn’t eliminate errors. You still might be retaining water on the day you weigh and think you didn’t lose any weight, even if you lost 2 pounds of fat. Although it might decrease some people’s worries, for me it would just make me more crazy. |

Don’t let it get to you – we all have our ‘bad’ days at some point. Move forwards and use it to motivate yourself further but don’t ever let it cause you to slip downthat slippery slope and regress. A few months back I went away for a ski trip and there was no opportunity to eat what I would normally eat. This in turn led to a cheat week and on return I had apparently put on about 6kg. I did eat big but there’s no way that I over consumed ~50000 calories! After a week or so this settled down and I had put on about 1.5kg which was expected – the rest was water weight. Weigh yourself at the same time each week to get a better idea of how you truly progressed. I also find http://www.physicsdiet.com handy to monitor weight as it will use the average of your results to give a more accurate weight. |

I am a daily weigher but I also am aware that my weight can fluctuate greatly throughout the day. I have gained 2 lbs over night and this after a good day with a jog at night and in the morning. It is probably menstrual related. If I know I’m way off I don’t bother to log that in DB. On the other hand I lost 3 lbs in a day, go figure. Somehow that number managed to make it in DB ;-) lol |

I like to put my weight in daily, even if it does go up… This way you can take a look at the overall trend, and make corrections before they are a problem. I almost always go up 2 before I go down 3… It’s just the way it works for me. The graph is more motivating I think, knowing that the 2lbs up only lasts a day or two. |

I also weigh daily. I consider my Wednesday weigh-ins my “official” weigh-in, but I like to spot trends before they get out of control. Don’t take the numbers too seriously on a daily basis, just use them as a guideline. |

I also weight daily because I like to see how it looks on a graph and it’s become a part of my morning routine. |

hzomayah , it is ok to gain weight. Don’t be upset. It happens. As long as you get up on your feet the next day and burn more than what you eat. You will eventually get to your goal. |

To clarify, I’m not against weighing ones self daily, I do it myself (truth be told, I actually weigh myself twice each day). However, I have also found that there are a good deal of people (read: those who let the number on the scale throw their day off) who benefit greatly from a once per week weighing. The point isn’t to eliminate errors; it’s to keep sanity. After a week, if the number on the scale isn’t where you want it to be, go back and revisit your nutrition journal to see what the issue might be (women should also take into consideration the time of month). |

I agree with Susan. I think it’s OA to weigh yourself daily. |
