I am trying to meet my daily protein intake without going over on my required carb intake which sometimes happens while trying to meet my goal and I don’t eat fish or eggs. I eat protein bars, peanut butter sandwiches, and chicken but I am getting tired of eating the same thing. Do you have any recommendations to increase my protein intake and not go over on my carb intake?

I Burned 5,000 Calories! I Lost 5 Lbs!

I struggle with getting the protein intake recommended as well. Let’s face it, I like carbs!

For me, I’ve started focusing more on protein supplements. I have a jug of whey protein that I can use in smoothies or oatmeal.

I just started trying a liquid version called New Whey. To me, it tastes less like cough syrup than some of the others and little (if any) sugar.

With what you have listed it unfortunately doesn’t leave you with much more to eat, but I would recommend nuts. Almonds and peanuts being some of the higher in protein. These are easy to just eat through the day. Also you can try making smoothies with peanut butter, those are always tasty.

Good Luck!

Beef tenderloin is also a good option, or any other beef cut that you can get very lean.

I too am facing the low protein issue. I’m a vegetarian so it is particularly tough.

I’m sort of in the same boat with you on eating fish, allergic and what not. Although I eat eggs on a weekly basis. I recommend eating different cheeses like string cheese, cottage cheese, and ricotta cheese. Soy Milk has a lot of protein in it and same with Chicken and Beef. I’m not much of a fan of tofu or tempeh unless its from a vegetarian chinese restaurant.

Other stuff you can try:
Nuts
Venison
Sunflower Seeds
Edamame Beans
Live Natural Yogurt
Tahini/Hummus
Pork

Greek yogurt is another great option. Less fat and carbs than standard yogurt and it has a different, creamier texture.

I drink a Whey Protein mix every morning before my workout and that keeps my protein intake at a decent level. I try to have one hard-broiled egg with breakfast, and usually have meat/fish with every dinner.

I agree with most of the people on here as far as what you can take to up your protein and lower your carb intake. When considering the peanut butter…go with the all natural kind. Jiff and others like that tend to have a lot of sugar in them. The fewer the ingredients the better is a good motto. You can always cook up some lean ground turkey, legumes (beans), almonds, pistachios, whey protein, cottage cheese, etc, Hopefully this helps and good luck.

As boring as it can be to eat the same things all the time, it’s kind of the byproduct of dieting and eliminating healthy options from your list of possibles. If you’re having trouble getting enough protein, chug a protein shake. They’re better for you than bars. And if you’re trying to get your carbs down, peanut butter sandwiches are a REALLY bad idea. If you want to spice things up, try adding in some cottage cheese. You can eat it plain or whip it up with some cocoa powder or some fresh fruit or some peanut butter. Or, flavor your chicken differently. There are SO many things you can do with chicken. I eat grilled chicken almost every day. Get it canned and mix in some mustard and a bit of lite mayo for chicken salad. (Or even better, add in a whole cup of chopped onions, peppers, and celery). I have a whole cabinet full of different spices and sauces to throw on it grilled. Barbeque sauce, hot sauce, soy sauce, mexican seasoning, bean dip, sesame oil. Even “bad for you” condiments aren’t that bad at all if you only use a little. Put in in a salad and put dressing on it. Put it on whole grain pizza. I refuse to believe that chicken could ever get boring if you’re making an effort to spice up your diet :P

Duck is super high in protein and it tastes delicious if you cook it properly (medium rare). Other than that, try beans.
