I Burned 5,000 Calories! I Lost 20 Lbs! I Lost 10 Lbs!

I normally don’t have a problem getting my water intake for the day. Occasionally I like to drink some sugar free kool aid to get rid of any sugar cravings. Can I count this as water intake too? Any negatives to drinking it?

Ooh, get ready for the onslaught. My opinion: Water is water, even when it’s flavored. (But account for any calories/sugar when appropriate.) But you’ll hear lots of differing opinions. You’ll just have to make up your own mind.

As long as you don’t show signs of dehydration and it keeps other things in check, then I wouldn’t worry about it. The whole “drink this much water” number isn’t very accurate either but I think that’s a whole different topic.

Personally, I can’t stand flavored water type drinks so I never worry about it. I don’t even like my tea sweetened.

As long as you are properly hydrated, and keep your calorie intake in check (people underestimate the calories in a lot of what they drink) I think you can drink what you want. As TheAng said, the suggested intake of water differs depending on who is suggesting, and since most of the water you get comes from your diet, is more of a guideline anyway.

You check your hydration levels by a) your level of thirst and b) the color of your urine. If it has much color to it, you need to drink more.

Seriously, if kool-aid makes you drink more water then by all means drink the kool-aid. Sometimes additives can lessen the effect of the water but I don’t think it’s enough to really matter for people who drink 64 oz or more of fluid daily.

I don’t see a problem with drinking it but I wouldn’t count it as part of my water intake. Diet soda has water in it too and 5 less calories than sugar free cool aid would you count that as well?

Yea but diet soda has a much higher sodium content, and a much lower water content, than sugar free kool-aid.
