Hi Guys,

Im getting to the point where im beginning to get frustrated with my perceived lack of progress.

Bit of background, i went from about 90kg to about 87.2kgs in a month, by modifying my diet and eating around 1600-1800 calories a day.

I began to plateau (after eating the same and increasing my exercise), at which point i signed up to daily burn.

Its now been two weeks since i hit my lowest weight point, and ive actually put on about .4kilos in the last week.

I know i shouldn’t weigh myself, as a sole measure of success, but it is very demotivating to put on weight when im so conscious of what i eat every day.

I have read so much on the subject, and know that the maths says that if you deficit by 500 calories a day you should drop half a kg a week, no matter what. so why all of a sudden am i plateauing and increasing weight slightly?

does anyone have any ideas or tips to keep the weight coming off, my goal weight is 85 kilos for now, the next step is 82. I am reticent to eat more because i don’t want to put on any more weight.

I currently do gym twice a week, a sprint session once a week and play squash once a week.

Thanks guys, looking forward to achieving my goal!

First off you haven’t hit a plateau. The definition of a plateau is no scale loss or loss of inches in 4-6 weeks. You can be adding muscle and losing fat ie losing inches while not showing this on the scale. Have you been taking measurements? Most weight loss is not linear-the human body is not a machine. Take some measurements, step away from the scale and check things out in another 2 weeks. :)

Conqueror of Baby Belly Fat! Healthy mom/dad I Lost 5 Lbs! Top Contender I Lost 10 Lbs! Fortnight Champion Gold Medalist

Push through! By push through I mean don’t give up! Changing things up is always an option, just keep working towards your goal..from reading advice from others on here I have learned to measure and take pictures, both have been very helpful to me, because I can see results even when the darn F**ing scale is stuck in the same place.
Also try not to stress it,I know easier said than done.

Lyrica has great points,I had no idea what the definition of a plateau was, turns out I have never actually had one!

You could also meet with a nutritionist to make sure you are getting everything your body needs.

The body is a funny thing, as Lyrica mentioned you can bounce up and down. Perfectly normal. Frustrasting but perfectly normal.

Your body can get wise to your ways after awhile too. Sometimes it helps to go back to your maintanence calories for a week or two, just to change things up. Then you can try returning to your weight loss calorie levels.

As already posted, it would be helpful if you started using the nutrition log on DailyBurn so that we can pinpoint specific issues. It’s not only important to watch how much you’re eating, but what you eat (and when you eat it) is going to impact your diet as well, especially as you become a slimmer you.

It would also be helpful to know your age, height and current weight (and what your starting weight was) in addition to approximately how many calories you’re burning daily.

Keep in mind that if you’re doing the same workout today that you were doing 1 month ago, it’s likely less effective. As you become fitter you need to modify your workouts to garner the same benefits.

Share more details and I’m certain you’ll get a good deal of feedback from this message board!

1st Qtr 2010 Most Weight Lifted I Lost 5%

It’s hard to tell, but it might be the alcohol. I don’t know if that happens very often, or if it is just a one day thing. Alcohol generally gets in the way of weight loss, so it is something to minimze when cutting fat.

I wonder if the Lattes are high calories than DailyBurn thinks. I suppose it really depends on the size and who makes them.

yeah i know alcohol is a bad bad thing! i hardly drink at all, usually one day a week but the rest of the time i only drink water and fruit juice occasionally.

coffees too ;). yeah, the guys downstairs are pretty good, i think the dailyburn estimate is pretty close to what i had calculated so its good.

@firstworldchild, in looking at your stats, my first thought is that at 5’11" tall and 193 lbs, while you can afford to lose some weight, depending on your build you’re really looking at losing the last 15 or so pounds (again, this could be more or less depending on your build — I know many men who are 5’11" and weigh 180-185 lbs who look great!).

The less weight you have to lose, the more diligent you need to be in order to reach your goals.

Being that you’re just beginning to use the nutrition log, it’s difficult to pinpoint major gaps at this time. I would make sure to watch your sodium intake and consume more water (shoot for 80 – 100 oz per day, unless there’s a reason you cannot consume that amount of water).
