OK, so I’ve suffered a really bad sprain that I can’t put any weight on at all and I’m pretty much going to be bed-ridden for at least 2 weeks (I only have crutches and I live on a top floor flat with no lift). So, can you suggest any exercises that I may be able to do while stuck in bed, bearing in mind that I can’t move my right foot at all and I can’t put any weight on my knees as I also damaged my left knee. I’m mainly looking for some kind of cardio that I might be able to get away with doing. I know I’ll be able to manage some arm DB exercises, but I really want to be able to do some form of cardio! Any help would be really appreciated. |

Based on your posting (you cannot tolerate any weight standing, have knee problems and are basically home-bound), I’m pretty certain you’re out of luck. If you had access to a gym I would suggest an upper body ergometer (think of it as a bicycle for your arms), but it doesn’t seem you can get to a gym. My suggestion would be to use this time to focus on your diet. Being bedridden you are not expending alot of energy. Now is the time to clean up whatever poor eating habits you have. |

Punching and upper body weight lifting are a couple of things that spring to mind. B. |

Maybe some upper body isometrics? Can you get to a pool? That would let you work out more muscle groups without damaging your ankle further. Good luck! |

Bouncing on the mini trampoline even in sitting down position is going to be very helpful. All the best |

Hi, thank you all for you responses =) I’ve been able to do some shadow boxing and lots of arm exercises. An ergometer would have been perfect, but alas no, I couldn’t get to a gym. I’m able to walk (almost) now and so have taken up swimmimg. My form is atrotcious and I’m obviously stronger on one side meaning I swim at an angle and I look silly, but, at least I’m burning some calories, right?! =) |
