I live on the second floor and can’t always get to the gym. Does anyone know of any workouts that raise the heart rate without jumping? Thanks in advance : ) |

Shadowboxing |

I have the same problem, I try to stick to some push ups or sit ups when I get the chance. |

You might also get some of those heavy duty weight lifting mats, they absorb a lot of energy and are pretty decent noise dampeners. They aren’t too expensive either around 30 dollars for a 8×10 area. |

Are you looking for cheap solutions, if so, the mat is probably a good answer. Otherwise, you could always look into getting some kind of cardio equipment. Suggestions that won’t make a lot of noise for your neighbors: *My personal favorite |

The shadow boxing is a great idea. The Kenpo workout that is part of P90X gets my heart going and there is no jumping just a bunch of punches and kicks in quick repetitious patterns. I love it and am worn out by the end. A workout like that may work. |

Running… outside. Problem solved! I run outside all year – best cardio there is IMO. |

How about running the stairs? Or jump roping outside? |

A circuit training weights workout? I like Jillian Michaels’ No More Trouble Zones. Aside from some jumping jacks in the warmup (which you could replace with punches or just skip them) it’s no jumping! But it will get your heart rate up and kick your ass. |

Bicycle crunches will destroy you, and won’t disturb your neighbors. I’d just make friends with whoever is under you and let them know you’ll be noisy for 30 minutes. Chances are they won’t care. |

Plank pushups will work your core, back, chest, and arms. They also get your heart rate up there. To do a plank pushup: Complete one pushup and then when you return to plank position, twist your body to one side. Keep one arm on the floor and lock the elbow. Lift the opposite arm straight into the air (your body will form a sideways “T”). Return to plank position. Whoa, these are hardcore, but I do them everyday to maximize workout space/time. |

Alternate bodyweigth squats and push-ups for as long as you can. I do these all the time when I’m on holiday or in a place where there is no gym. I sounds like strenght and it is, but if you keep the pauses short your heartrate will go to the roof |

Burpees! Dampening the kick-out and pop-up phases, trying to do those quietly, will activate some of your core. An exercise mat will help too. (edit – fixed typo) |

^That. I find outdoor exercise also helps my mood. When I’m tired and cranky from staring at a computer all day, running outside is practically a treat. |
