I was just wondering if you guys thought that the calorie counting feature on cardio machines at the gym is accurate? Or should I ignore them and just keep working for a set amount of time rather than to a certain amount of calories? |

They are inaccurate. The machine does not take into account lots of factors that determine how many calories you burn. Don’t ignore it though. Try to out perform yourself each time. Try to go for better time, more calories, distance goals, things of that nature. |

It seems that the machine is quite useful. Have a try! |

I use my watch/timer/calorie counter/heart rate monitor pretty much every time I’m working out. They are wildly inaccurate. Kind of like measuring distance using a pedometer. It only works if all the variables are entered and accounted for. Since the machine can’t know most of them, it makes assumptions. I have tested using my watch versus a treadmill and got a difference of over 100kcals in half an hour. Which is right? Who knows exactly. More than anything I use it a a guide line for how much effort I am putting in. Kind of a ‘feel good’ number you could say. |

Yes machines are not correct bit ignoring it will be not a solution you will know it once you start losing weight, for that you have to set your dream weight and do proper workout and diet to achieve it, apart from this you have to monitor your weight and do some regular checkups which will help you to stay fit and healthy. |

It seems that the machine is quite useful but it is not always right. Sometimes it is wrong. i think you should make the particular time or plan for the wight loss exercise. Try for better time, more calories. Hope you will get success. |

Make sure you are using a reasonable incline on the treadmill to simulate real-world running. The whole calorie counting thing is nice but its just a stat. The pure fact that you are on a treadmill at all is the most important thing. |
