Hey everybody.I signed up a while back but this is my first post. I am cramping in my foot during workouts. The foot that cramps is dead for the most part from nerve damage. Could this cause it or just a coincidence? Something lacking in diet maybe? I know potasium but it’s just that foot. Seems if it was something like that I would cramp somewhere else. Also, while I’m at it, I give out on my left side first. (right handed) Will it catch up with time or should I work that side a little more. I am newish at this(working out) but serious. I eat clean for the most part and I eat plenty.Lean proteins, whole grains, fruits and veggies and healthy fats daily.

I’m not sure about your neve damage, as that could certainly be a contributing factor. But for me I always get a cramp running down the side of my right foot when I practice Brazilian Jui-Jitsu.

After looking at my potassium and magnesium intake. I started taking supplements of both as well as watching my sodium and drinking 4-6oz of prune juice intermittently through the week. I very rarely get cramps now.

( Of course drink a lot of water! )

Be well.

One of the most overlooked items in a diet is electrolytes. We demand allot from out bodies, sweat buckets at the gym but yet we never replenish the sodium/electrolytes that our bodies need for both endurance and recovery. Cramping can be caused by a number of factors. Start eliminating the obvious first. Gatorade, powerade, NUUN tablets all will assist with replenishing electrolyte stores. Once you have a good handle on that and still cramp, then you need to look at muscle fatigue. Considering that you have nerve damage already, this could likely be the main cause of your cramping.

Try eating a banana and drink a little more water before working out. Sounds too simple to work, and some times it just is that simple. I have never been prone to cramping much, but once I remember when riding pretty long in rather more heat than usual, i felt a cramp coming up in my right calve. I had a banana and a few big bulps from my bottle, and with in a minute it faded away and I could put the hammer down again and catch up with the group.

Thanks! I drink alot of water but I NEVER drink gatorade and rarely eat bananas. I will buy both today. And Antil0ck, if it is from the nerve damage will I always deal with the cramping or will it get used to it? Running is something that I had to think diffrently about. Caused all kinds of problems till I made my foot land right with my eyes, not the feeling. Can I do something along these lines in this situation also?
