I Burned 5,000 Calories! I Burned 25K Calories! I Lost 5 Lbs!

I’m just about where I want my body to be. All I have left to get rid of is a small amount on my love handles and some fat on my lower back/side right above my butt. What would be the best way to get rid of this fat. I have been doing a good amount of abs and its worked some but seems to be stopping. Is there an exercise that will target my lower back’s sides.

You can’t selectively lose fat in certain areas. What you CAN do is lose fat overall, by diet and excersise. You can also work to increase the muscle in those areas, which can make the area appear thinner, but this improvement is made by the muscle getting stronger, not the fat going away.

Your best bet here would be to create a calorie deficit and lose a bit of body fat.

Do a full body weight training and with a calorie deficit the fat will go away finally, but be aware the lest fat you have the harder it will be to lose it. Therefore try not cheat…

If you go to a gym and have really good trainer you might ask him to teach you squats, deadlift and bench press with barbells. This combination hits not only the major muscle groups but many small muscles which stabilize the body core.

The best way to lose love handles and lower back fat is to lower your body fat percentage. All the abdominal exercises in the world will not help!

And, the best way to lower your body fat percentage is to combine weight training with a nutritional approach of eating healthy foods whose calories total to less than you burn on an average day. So, if you burn about 2500 calories per day, eating 2000 calories will help you lose weight. If you combine this with weight training, the weight lost will come primarily from fat. I agree with Ferdi that the best weight training is full body weight moves like squats and deadlifts. You can also do push-ups, pull-ups or chin-ups, and rows (or inverted rows). All of these exercises give a great workout and burn calories.

Also, high intensity interval training (HIIT) can be better for fat loss than regular (long, steady state) cardio. You can do track sprints, treadmill sprints, use the spin bike, or even do dumbbell or kettlebell swings, alternated with rest.

Like everyone said, you can not selectively remove fat. Good old diet and exercise to lose weight is the only way to do it.

Working certain areas of the body only increases muscle, which is a good thing.

I am 59 years old, and I find that I burn lots of fat incorporating high intensity bursts within my long (50-60 minutes) 5 days a week recumbent bike workouts. I have started working 5 -6 one minute high intensity burst randomly placed within the main body of my workout. It makes things interesting.

@saram50, you are doing a form of HIIT. Even though instead of diong 60mins you could get the same benefits from a 15min ‘standard’ HIIT session.
