So I have recently started using the sauna at my gym about 3-4 times a week for roughly 20 minutes a session. I have been reading on the health benefits and how its good for the skin. I also have been reading that you can burn upwards of 300-500 calories depending on the heat and your body compesition per 30 minute session. While I realize these are just “calories burnt” and your getting no toning what so ever out of it, not a bad way to get those extra calories off and toxins out of your body. |

I hate saunas. I also think they are disgusting. They are a bacteria haven. Prime temperature for bacteria to grow. Yes, they open up your pores, which is a good thing, but they also open them to all of the other bacteria growing. I find it hard to believe you can burn as many calories, or more, sitting in a hot room as you can running. |

as long as you take a shower after sitting in the sauna i cant imagine bacteria really being a problem. |

I like a nice, long, warm to hot shower after a workout…same effect, no bacteria plus I can get my cleaning up and nice warmness all at the same time! I would doubt that you burn that many calories just being hot or else everyone here in Florida would be skinny…after all, every day here in the summertime is just like stepping out into a Sauna! :) |

….Make sure you rehydrate well after being in one. |

We just got back from visiting the in-laws in Finland. Every home has a sauna. Every time we come back, I keep thinking about getting a sauna put in at the house. It was especially nice in the winter. Spend the day ice fishing and snowmobiling, then come for a nice hot sauna. Then go outside and stand naked in the snow drinking a beer. |
