I recently started the couch to 5k program and the first week was preety good. Then during the first run of my second week I got horrible lower back pains and it felt like my spine was on fire. I run in a wooded area with hills and uneven surfaces, could this be the issue or is it something else. I don’t want to give up because I have really started to like running and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am not a doctor so I recommend you consult one. Or a chiropractor. That would be my first piece of advice.
In addition to that, low back pain can be related to muscle tightness in the hips and/or groin or weakness in the core. Exercises like birddogs and planks are great for the core. Extending stretching of the hamstrings and groin can help too.
But be careful and consult a healthcare professional first.

I agree with ThriveFit better be safe than sorry. My guess is that you have weak core muscles and got some sudden “punch” or impact to your spine (or nerve endings) as your stabilizing muscles fatigued and could not protect you properly. But that is a guess. Spine injuries are not to mess around with. Get the doc on the case.

Zodiac, what does your millage look like? also, what type of shoes are you wearing? Trail running is a completely different beast from road running and doing a couch to 5k program designed for road running on the trails is not a good idea. Message me and we can discuss your training a bit further and I can tell you what worked for me when I fist started trail running.
