I’ve been hitting the gym fairly solidly for the last 3-4 months doing a mix of weights and cardio, working for at least an hour and a half at a time. My cardio usually consists of a 2 – 5k run on the treadmill followed by similar on the cross trainer. When I started I was so out of shape and sweated profusely – so much that it poured into my eyes and left my t-shirt absolutely soaked by the end of each session. Looking around the gym I noticed that nobody else seemed to sweat as much and figured it would reduce as I got fitter. Whilst my stamina and overall fitness has improved greatly over the last few months I’ve yet to see a reduction in the amount of sweat I’m producing during a session – I still finish up drenched every time. Is this normal, or am I really still the most unfit guy in my gym? |

Sweating is actually a sign of fitness. You have probably a genetic disposal to sweat well. Keep in mind that sweating is your body’s cooling system. So having a strong cooling system is a good thing. Endurance athletes sweat easily. It is because they have a well functioning cooling system. But you will also notice that your sweat will end up being more or less odorless as you do cardio regularly. This is because this kind of cooling sweat is more or less odorless. It is a totally different story to smell noob sweat, from guys out of shape, they stink. ;) |

Menshealth had an article relating exactly to that, they said just what arnthorla said. Sweat is your body’s way of cooling itself, the better shape you are in the more quickly the body sweats. I wish I could find the link, not sure if it was a tweet from them or I saw it on the site, but was just last week. |

+1 on what arnthorla said. Also, so long as you wipe down machines after you use them, take a good shower afterwards, and don’t leave sweaty clothes in a gym locker, I’m betting your gym-mates won’t care, either. Sweat usually doesn’t stink much until it’s been sitting around a bit. :) Besides, as you get in better shape, a bit of sweat can be pretty darn sexy. ;) |

I tend to sweat like a mad-man also. Personally, I enjoy working up a good sweat – and tend to view it as a bit of an indicator to how hard I’m working. If I’m leaving a workout without soaking through my clothes – I’m simply not trying hard enough :) It’s your bodies way of cooling itself down. An interesting contract – a friend of mine has been working out for over a year. She claimed that she rarely used to sweat – she could go to a cardio class over her lunch, not sweat – and head into work after without showering. But just recently, she’s started to sweat buckets while working out. Seems like her cooling system has finally kicked into gear. |

I myself have the “sweat gene”, I believe I inherited it from my mom who can break into a sweat just by concentrating hard. :-) Anyhow, if your sweating a lot during your workouts just make sure that you’re drinking plenty of fluids, wiping down your equipment and doing your laundry regularily. If you’re really concerned than get a medical opinion, but that’s probably more an issue if you’re sweating all of the time. Otherwise, no sweat. ;-) |

I know exactly what you mean. I found out the hard way, that I can never wear a white shirt to the gym, as by the time im finished, you can see every chest hair (and stomach for that matter) through my shirt once im done. I litterally look like someone dumped a bucket of water on me once im finished. From everything that I have read though, its a good thing, just make sure you hydrate yourself well afterwards. Water is a great asset to your overall fitness. |

I sweat a lot as well….i can sweat in normal day to day living…so count yourself lucky you don’t have this problem :) but in all honesty don’t worry about sweating in the gym, for me it is an indication of hard training. |

I agree with everyone above, it’s a good thing, not a problem. |

To add to what tomahawkeer said about post workout hydration studies have shown that a glass of Skim milk after a workout has proven to rehydrate better than water, and using chocolate milk instead will actually help with muscle regrowth. |

Yea I wouldn’t be worried if it is only happening in the gym. It is when you start sweating when you are doing nothing that it becomes a problem. Stop Excessive Sweating |
