I just started this program and today walked 1.6 miles but it shows that I burned no calories. How can that be? |

I don’t know where it is supposed to show that you burned calories? In general I burn about 100 Kcal (in Dailyburn that is) per mile. |

Of course you burn calories when you walk. Technically you’re always burning calories..just very slowly most of the time. It must be an error. |

Walking sure burns calories, the more strenuous the excersie, the more you burn – but there is some kind of “ideal speed” where your endurance and calorie burning are most balanced and offer “the best bang for the buck” so to say ;-) When you mean that dailyburn.com did not show up any burned calories, you may want to check a) your settings and b) that you did not accidentally enter a “0” in the calorie field (it must be left empty for the calories to be calculated and you have to give a duration and length of your walking excercise, otherwise it will not work) Keep on walking, Oliver My 2 cents, Oliver // The K-Plan // Healthier. Walking burns as much calories as running does or right around the same based on the DISTANCE you cover. I can burn as many calories walking 5km as I can running 5km. Difference is the run is faster. I am down 64 pounds over all and around 48 or something since joining daily burn. I will say a KEY item that works for me and many others I have helped now is a Heart Rate monitor. You will burn the most FAT calories if you hit the FAT burning ZONE with your heart rate. If you walk So slow that your heart rate never gets above 90 beats a min your not going to burn fat, If you walk so fast your heart rate is 160 Beats a min you won’t burn fat you will burn glycogen. It really depends on your sex and age etc. But if you can keep your heart rate between 130-140 BPM (guestimate here, look up the info and what the real zone is for your age etc) You are going to be doing cardio work, burning Fat and loosing weight. I started Walking, Then did a learn to run program, then got a bike and took up swimming now I am doing Triathlons. Try this site http://42.195km.net/e/jogsim/ get on the jogging calculator part. Disregard the map unless you want to use it to map your walk. You need to time your walk and the distance.. enter your personal information below the map it will tell you Calories burned how much energy you produced burn. How many pieces of cheeseburger and or Beers you burned…. funny and good stuff… Hope you can make use of it. |

Walking certainly burns calories! From a purely physics perspective, how else are you moving? In fact, walking briskly is a great form of exercise for all ages, plus you have enough spare energy (and wind) to carry on a conversation at the same time. The social interaction is important too! |

Even when you are sleeping, as long as your heart is beating, you burn calories. If you have a smart phone (like iphone, phone with android system or window system), just simply download a free app that uses GPS to track the calories you burn everyday while you are walking or running. I walk to school everyday so the app is very helpful. :) |
