Since weight lifting is not in the Challenges, I thought I’d have a competition here.
We’ll try a 7 day “test run”. If you are motivated from it and have fun, we’ll do another. We won’t win any awards, but we may have fun!
If you miss this competition, post your interest in being in the next one.
There will be no retroactive pounds lifted, we all start the competition equal, with “zero” lbs. lifted.
We’ll submit our workouts on our own Workout pages as usual, but also post here after our workout. Just edit your original post and add each new workout as thus:
Date: _ Total lbs. lifted: _ and Accumulative lbs. lifted: __
Start Date: Monday July 21, end Sunday Midnight (MST), July 27. Last sign-up date Monday, July 21.
Note: workout must be POSTED by Sunday Midnight (MST), July 27. The competition ends then, workouts posted after that deadline will not be included.

@Gimpy Granny
I would love to join this challenge. Alas, I am now on a holiday without access to a gym. Great idea though. This is definitely one of the metrics we want to add to the Challenges. Hopefully, we can get it up and running soon.
In the meantime, Good Luck!

The “Last Post” doesn’t change when we edit, so we can just edit our original, but add a seperate post saying I added today’s total lbs lifted.

Updated.
GG! You rock!
Actually, one thing I noticed is that when the devs make these into “real” challenges, they probably need to create a standard for recording exercises. For instance, I notice that jos is recording his body weight when he does bench dips. Whereas, I count that as 0 lbs unless I add weight. This, of course, makes a big difference in our totals, even if we do the exact same weights on the same exercises.
This should be something the devs consider when creating weight challenges.

I actually do dips press on 170 pounds… I weight 154. I use 170 lbs weight when I work on dips. I probably need to change the workout picture in my workout log since I sit and push down on the machine.
Thanks GG for the welcome note…

Ya, unless you lift weights, it’s 0 lbs. Otherwise, a person could jump up and down for numerous times (thus reps) and count each time you’re off the ground as lifting your own weight. That’s not how it’s done. There must be weight other than oneself to be a weighted exercise.

Sorry, my bad. I misread and thought they were bench dips. Well, cool, then, I think it’ll be more accurate. I think this was at the forefront of my mind because we talked in another thread about whether crunches or push-ups should be listed as your full body weight or only what weight is “added.” I just do what is added, you know?
Anyway, sorry for the assumption on that. I just misread the exercise as I figured no one would want to do a bench dip with 170 lbs on their stomach! lol

No problem bro… and yes you are right. There should to be a way to accurately measure weight lifting for everyone in any type of workout. Like doing push ups, you don’t really lift your body’s weight at all… so how to measure that? In my case, when I do push ups, I count that as 0 weight, even when I use bands, is still 0.

My bad too. I apologize, josvaldez. I jumped the gun. I couldn’t imagine someone doing bench dips with 170 lbs of plates on their chest.
