Why was the Daily Burn app developed by a 3rd party pulled when it was encouraged and known about? |

It looks like a great app, I wish I knew about it when it was still available. |

If DailyBurn had the Android App pulled, are they releasing their own? Can someone from DailyBurn respond? |

@patcondon: that would be my assumption. I’m currently an iPhone user but would definitely switch if the right Android phone came out. I hope to see this on both platforms. |

Didn’t DB hire someone to maintain a presence on these forums? Where are they? |
| Mar 28, 2010 10:09pm |
Hi everyone, Yes, there was an android app that was created, and it was created by a third party, not by us. We are working on some great new mobile features for the iphone. However, we are not sure when an Android app will be released. |

What about the claim that the app was known and encouraged by DB? True? False? Also, what about your Feb 14th comment about an Android food scanner, “Hi everyone – You’ve asked for it and we’ve been listening. That’s all I’m allowed to say for now . . . *wink, wink!” You go from win wink to "we are not sure when an Android app will be released??? Why do you insist on excluding everybody but iPhone users? No wonder I find myself more entrenched at LiveStrong.com They have apps for Blackberries, iPhones, AND Android phones. |

Yes, this is quite discouraging for 3rd party developers. We need an official reply explaining the action from the Daily Burn’s side. |

Hey everyone. So, the app being referred to was not an official DailyBurn app, and there were a couple of reasons we didn’t want it being published. For one, it was for the most part the iPhone-specific web interface wrapped into an Android app (more on this below), which bypasses any agreements that we put in place between DailyBurn and third-party developers. So, while we really aren’t patrolling the web looking to throw copyright issues in developer’s faces, this app was using the DailyBurn name, logo, etc. without permission and without an agreement in place to make sure that both sides are protected in a legal sense. We encourage developers to use our official API for developing third-party applications, and have had a lot of interest from Android developers. I know of two Android developers that are making great progress towards a DB app. So, if you wish to have a similar experience to using the app that was taken down, then you can simply bookmark http://dailyburn.com/iphone on your phone. I know this isn’t the ideal solution, and we do hope to offer a better one soon. Thanks! |

I do like using the /iphone site on my android, you guys should just re-brand that as a mobile website. My only real complaint is that you can’t specify a meal when you journal something, that feature would be nice. |

You guys are aware that Android is overtaking iPhone in sales at this point right? Prioritizing an Android app is probably a good idea from a business standpoint :P |

i agree with Sethbacca. Please make an android app. |
| May 26, 2010 7:37pm |
Don’t get me wrong, I love the android platform, however the only reason it is overtaking sales at the momentis because of two factors. 1) All the people who didn’t want to switch to AT&T are finally getting a great phone on their preferred network. 2) iPhone sales always slow down just before the release of a new handset. Regardless of this fact, I very well may be switching to Android simply to get off of AT&Ts horrible 3G coverage. Having a good DB app waiting for me would be a huge plus. :) |

So the last post was in March. Any news on the android app yet? |

Ridiculous. I dumped my iphone due to the proprietary aspect of cables/accessories/carrier and as more people discover these drawbacks, they will also reconsider their loyalty to Apple. Every single time a new iPhone comes out, it is not compatible with any of the cables and/or accessories from the previous iteration. Please get the android app done. It’s quite obvious you are not considering it a high priority. It just doesn’t take that long. |

There is a year’s worth of postings that ambiguously state that an Android app may be coming for Daily Burn and Daily Burn shuts down a third party developer from making capability available to loyal Daily Burn customers. I do not understand and agree that Daily Burn needs to make a decision and be more straightforward with their customers. |

I cannot believe the still don’t have an app for the blackberry or android. I consider DB just a bunch of Steve jobs fan-boys. Its pretty disappointing. You have been working on the blackberry app for how long now… 2 years? Do you realize there are more blackberries out there than iphones? Its obviously not important to DB I will be checking out the Livestrong site. |

Wasn’t there some major buy-out or venture capital raised a while back??? What have you spent it on, a secret shipment of iPhone 4s? Hire a damn BlackBerry and Droid developer for Pete’s sake! As for Livestrong… the site rocks. A LOT more information and features. The only drawback with the site is that you can’t plan meals. Although, you can create “meals” which are easily added to you MyPlate. The Livestrong APP is solid enough. However, there is no bar code scanner and they have one pretty serious bug: when you are moving from field to field, you can’t tell what field you are on as there is zero highlighting. It makes it a bit difficult if you are new to the trackpad. Other than that, Livestrong is a worthy alternative to DB. |

It appears that I am, by far, not the only one that is disappointed in DB’s response to this issue. the request for an android app has been in existenece for a great many months and I have been holding out on my upgrade for that fact alone. Should this keep up, I may have to take the advice of many of the contributors on this forum and get a Livestrong account. VERY DISAPPOINTING!! |

The application that was created for Android, was not a real application. It was built as a web shortcut that linked the droid to the web site http://dailyburn.com/iphone. It in no way was feature rich like the iPhone application. 2 alternatives are to use the http://dailyburn.com/iphone web site and log in using your Droid browser, or if you use iGoogle, you can add the DailyBurn plug in for iGoogle and mange your data that way. I too would LOVE an Android specific app like the iPhone, but just gotta be patient for now |

man it would be seriously great to have an android app… these days there is starting to be more new activated android phones than iOs or RIM based phone |

I had an iPhone and sold it QUICKLY. Now I own Android 2.1 Phone – its SO much better (and cheaper). Also iPhone sales might be high in USA, but here in Europe, Apple aren’t praised and when it comes to smartphones – most people prefer Android. I really want an App that can easily allow me to use DB on my device, especially in the gym. Currently its pain in the **s to enter workout progress on normal html version with 3.2" screen. |

Can we get an update from DailyBurn? It’s been months since the last post, which really didn’t give us any pertinent information. The insinuation of “secrecy” of an Android app is absurd. Either you are developing one or you aren’t. If you are, say so, and give a time frame. If not, then state that as well and at least people won’t keep asking. Most developers port their iPhone apps to Android with relative ease. The FoodScanner app is no exception, unless there is no interest from DB in developing for the Android community. The lack of communication is the most frustrating. Post something once a month as an update. At least PRETEND that you care what your users are saying!! |
