I think you guys would probably see an increase in membership if you would stop selling out to Apple and actually increase your scope to other products, me being one of them. Not only would it be reletively easy to port apps over from one from to another, it is just plain stupid not to. Thoughts? |

Hi lzzmo, as you may have seen in the forum, an Android version is in the works (forever now… :-( – an update on the status would be good, I guess). But of course you can use the dailyburn.com website on your browser. Maybe a good mobile version of the whole dailyburn experience for mobile browsers would be better than developing separate apps for Android, iOs, Blackberry, Palm, MeeGo….you name them…. ?? @Oliver_k That is acutally a very very good suggestion. Allthough I have an Apple and I have the app do you allways need an internetconnection to log your data anyway. The DB team could use this suggestion to satisfy everybody while waiting for an app :) |

I totally agree with you all – we need a great mobile web view. Good news – we are currently working on this. We have a few major projects in the works, so it might be a bit before it is released as we juggle priorities. |

Hey Kate, thanks for that update. I am looking forward to it because I do actually find the current version of the iOS app not sooo overly useful as compared to the .com experience. However, maybe you should be more open in terms of communicating progress and status on these projects so that everybody sees that you are working hard on improving dailyburn for every user regardless of the device they are using (but this communication thing, we had discussed before :-) ) Thanks a lot, Oliver // The K-Plan // Healthier. It’s unlikely you will see anything of the sort in a long while. The focus of the company is on Apple apps and more of them instead of focusing on improving the core features. The site itself is missing features, the Android app has been in development for a very long time, and the current mobile site is a joke. A new mobile site really won’t be a difficult under taking and for a single programmer is a week long project at worst. Whatever, overly frustrating as usual. |

Hey rattler201, I would agree that the focus for external apps lies within iOS for dailyburn at the moment. However, this is understandable as iOS provides the a consistent experience without the need to worry about different devices – it’s easier from a programmers point of view. If it was wise to announce a vapor-ware Android app for such a long time, is a totally different story. When it comes to making a decent mobile site, I must however object to your estimates. It all begins with the need to elimante all Flash elements (=all graphs) and while there are pretty good JavaScript libraries available that can do that, the programming involved is much heavier than just two pizzas, a sixpack of Bud and some hours fun coding. Also a proper mobile port must provide a really thought through UI and UX, otherwise it does not make any sense, because the current site is viewable on mobile browsers already (sans Flash that is, for iOS users). So I would gauge a project like this more in the range of 2-3 months. I am speaking from experience :-) (see me signature) Sorry for the tech babble vocabulary. But Oliver, it’s been approximately 2 years……… As for DB, Please don’t pee on my head and tell me it’s raining. |

Hi darkstar5, thanks for your comment. Don’t misunderstand me: I find it absolutely inept to announce a product and not deliver over such a long timeframe. Instead of being mum, I guess dailyburn would be much better off saying something about this subject, even if it is: Sorry, we won’t make that Android app. I am not defending db on their communication matters here. All I wanted to say is that redevloping the site to be accessible for mobile use (and that is not programming an app) takes substantially more time than suggest in a post before. Again, sorry for the tech babble, Oliver // The K-Plan // Healthier. Fitter. Slimmer. |
