The World’s First Ever five fingers 5k, sponsored by Mahoney’s was held this past weekend in Johnson City, TN. It was open to all runners, regardless of footwear. However, the winner was wearing vibram five fingers and finished the race in 17:33. vibram five fingers fan, Nestor, ran in the race and shared this excellent report with us:
One of the participates said: I recently participated in the “five fingers 5k” in Johnson City, TN hosted by Mahoney’s, a diverse local outdoor retailer(think REI combined with a Bass Pro Shop). It was a relatively small race, with 89 participants, mostly locals. Touted as the “world’s first” five fingers 5k, special consideration was given to VFF-clad runners, with completely separate rankings, awards, and prizes, as opposed to “regular shoe” runners who were still welcomed to participate. Of the total participants, 15(including myself) were five finger shoes runners. Amazingly, there was only one female in the bunch sporting peach/chili Classics. The course ran through an adjacent residential neighborhood characterized by many frequent small hills. Combined with typical “deep south” weather (read high heat/humidity), it made for a particularly unique 5k race with vibram shoes.
