I Burned 5,000 Calories!

… which is going for more money. I guess now I finally understand why this Daily Burn is such a buggy piece of crap. :|

I hear you. I get enough sales push from the PTs at the gym without having to get it at the online tool I use for tracking nutrition and workouts. Which I already pay for, of course. I can see an online “coach” or PT working for some things – like an involved annual training plan for a bike racer or some other kind of endurance athlete. But if I were going to dump money into a PT-related practice I’d rather have someone there spotting me on lifts and setting up circuits for me in person.

I’ve been a DB pro user since the beginning. I feel like this tracker site has been abandoned, I love looking through old forums of promised features from several years ago that are still not implemented. I have lost 30 lbs and my wife 20lbs thanks to DB. But lately I’m thinking about looking at other products. :(

500 mile Bike Winner Super-Ripped I Biked 100 Miles!

So, is there going to be no option? I’m with Bogleg on this. While I don’t get harangued by PT in my garage gym, I also really am beyond them in some ways. I’ve been lifting for years, I have a solid program I am on. I vary my activities and routines to avoid boredom. I know how to break through plateaus. I don’t use a iPad, iPhone, Wii or my laptop. Not even on top of a mountain like in the infomercial. So there is little that I would find useful from what I am seeing.

I want to log my workouts. I want to see my progress over time. I enjoy posting to the forums on occasion. I enjoy the challenges now and again. But I don’t need the the DB version of Facebook or Jenny Craig.

I have been on this site for years now and I’m willing to see how this goes. I don’t want to start tilting at windmills, but I pay for my membership and I don’t want to be forced into accepting features I would never use over my core of useful tools. DB you have never let me down and I’m counting that this time you won’t either. I’ll give it a chance but don’t screw this up.

So I poked around the new DB with my free 7 day access for a bit… it’s a totally different site. There is no real tracking system there (they say to come here for that) – so you’d need to use both sites if you want to still track daily caloric intake, etc. It seems it is mostly about challenges (weekly, daily, etc.) and video-based workouts you can do to perform the challenges. Which is interesting, sort of. Of the workouts I could view, all of them seemed more or less “at home” types of workouts (cardio with a step or cardio ball, a KB workout, a tabata workout). I suppose one could use their smart phone to view the video while at the gym and perform the workout. I was hoping more for a “plan” based on someone reviewing my actual goals and current fitness for $25 per month. I will poke around some more to see if the DB6 are people you can interact with or are just faces in a video. I didn’t see any more “community” there (in fact, there is more here from what I can tell).

I think DB is going in the opposite direction as their clients. It seems like DB users want an excellent site to track and analyze their workouts. Seems like a focus on integrating with some other services to pull in data would be top priority. Like grabbing data from Runkeeper or Stronger. Instead they have developed a rather expensive online workout routine site with videos that is disconnected from their tracking site.

1 to Bristow! I have poked around a few of the other sites out there that let you track nutrition and workouts, and I still think DB Tracker is the easiest and most efficient to use of the ones I have found. That being said, I totally agree: integration with other applications that we use to track fitness-related data would be huge – doing a bike ride with mapmyride.com and having it automatically log in your exercise log here, for example, or the same thing with NikeGPS on a run. That would be awesome. I came here in 2007 from Fitday because Fitday’s nutrition logging is a PITA. DB Tracker offers the most complete set of features for the number cruncher who wants to measure results. I agree with others that I hope this site stays front of mind and continues to be supported (and improved) by the DB staff.

Like Bogleg I tried out the new site too, but couldn’t even find where to enter in my weight. It seems like some really good stuff and videos, but doesn’t have the tracking tools, which is why i absolutely LOVE this site and have lost almost 60 lbs. I put that in the comments when I cancelled the free 7 day trials.
