I have had various forms of a pro account with this site over the last couple years (including the free at one point) and recently convinced a friend to try out the site. With this recommendation, I assumed the Free Version of Daily Burn was still available but from what I gather with the new “try free for 7 days, cancel if you don’t like”, there is no way for a user to have a free account for more than 7 days. Am I misinterpreting this? If someone creates an account but ‘quits’ after 7 days so as to not be charged, do they still have the “free” account that existed prior to the new pay scheme? Thanks! |

No one is charging me. |

I hope that’s not true (i.e., free accounts being limited). Like Chad, no one is charging me, but that would suck if that’s not an option anymore. This site has actually gone down in quality imho since I joined when it was gyminee. In the quest for creating premium content, they’ve actually removed features that used to be free, like browsing other people’s workout routines and unlimited favorites for foods (they left this feature for early adopters). i know they need to make a buck, but be reasonable. |

my bad, the browsing user workouts is still there, just hard to find ;) |

My question was not really, “Are they going to take features away from those that were grandfathered before the mandatory trial” but rather, “Is it still possible to obtain a free (albeit limited) account indefinitely?” |

@mh1: agreed. I was just making the point that things keep getting taken away here, including being able to create a new free account that doesn’t expire |

Still looks to me like the free plan is still available (says me who’s only here because it is) indefinitely for new users. I logged out and had a poke around and I still see the option for free accounts, just with a lot of upsell about how much better the paid accounts are. In fact, the accounts page says they don’t offer any free period with the paying plans at all, only the standard contract-law type 30 day satisfaction guarantee. So yes, I think there is some misinterpretation going on. Hope that helped! |

missingopposum, did you register in the time since they’ve imposed the “7 day money back guarantee” policy or prior? |

Hi everyone, sorry to chime in late here. We recently changed from a freemium model that leaves the free account with stripped down features to a tiered paid account model that allows you to try pro for free for 7 days. We are collecting data to see how people are responding to this since it was implemented, because most people who use the site regularly are paid members. You cannot create a free account that you can use indefinitely anymore. If you have any feedback, definitely feel free to shoot us a line at http://help.dailyburn.com, our new support site. |

Kate – If you go pro, do you have the ability to go back to free if you want to at the end of the year? I’m thinking about going pro again, but if I can’t fall back to free I don’t think it is worth it. |

Well. I like the site. But as soon as I’m expected to pay for it I’ll leave. There are too many other sites that have managed to make the free model work. |

Wow thats really a shame. I know for me personally it took me more then seven days to get myself into the habit of logging in and entering my food and work-outs. I’d been recommending the site to friends because I thought it was free still, but if its not I’m not going to push it on others who now only have the option to pay. |

I agree with SoyLatte I’ve been telling my friends about DB but I doubt any of them would be willing to pay for the service since there are so many other free options out there. I know I would migrate to a free site should a fee be applied to my account. |

Daily Burn—if you’re listening, DON’T DISABLE THE FREE OPTION! |

“There’s no free lunch.” “You get what you pay for.” I don’t believe an indefinate free account is in anyone’s best interest. Surely not in DailyBurns. I am here because there are no ads. A fee represents a commitment. It is just this sort of commitment that is REQUIRED to become healthy and fit. The forums are often used as (free) ad space by folks with free accounts. This does not serve me. Or you. Or DailyBurn. I’ve been journaling my exercise and nutrition since before internet access was common. LifeForm, anyone? I’ve got to have tried almost all of them. I find DailyBurn to be technically the best. OK, sometimes their servers lag – but, they’re working on that. There is a level of expertise here on DailyBurn that is amazing. In my opinion, an excellent value for my health and fitness dollar. These people are happy to help motivate and advise you FOR FREE! |

What makes this site is the forums and the people on the forum. If those go DailyBurn will lose it soul and gradually fade away. Can’t replicate the soul, even if you hire payed “experts”. |

@Matilda I do agree that DB is the best fitness tracking site I have come accross. Obviously it works, I track everything I eat and do every day and scan the forums twice a day. Ive lost 22lbs since August even. I still would not pay for the service though. If I were into body building I would probably pay to ba able to do meal plans, workout plans, and see advanced nutrition info, but for the casual fitness person such as myself, I know I can acheive my goals without DB, its just nicer to be on here :) |

I had an account in the past and then eventually stopped using it. Being short of funds, I currently do not have a pro account but was able to sign up for free and i saw nothing about this being limited! If it was, that would be awful because being able to track my workouts and nutrition is my motivation :) |

There are literally dozens of exercise forums and tracking tools available for free. If DB does go pay-only, I’ll wish them well, but it won’t break my heart. So much of DB is user created content, you really won’t lose anything except access to these particular people. |

What? I’m new member, but I will leave with no free plan. I’m moving to Sparkpeople… |

Maybe I missed something but I read and re-read Katie message and things are not yet clear to me. |

Appears the ability to create free accounts is back. |
