Actually, it’s a bit of a toss-up. Fish are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are shown to improve cardiovascular health, but they also contain mercury, which has been shown to cause elevated risk of cardiovascular disease.

The patient should probably limit fish consumption, but take a good fish-oil supplement.

  • note, I’m not a doctor, so this should not be construed as reliable medical advice.

According to recent studies it has been found that eating one to two servings of fish a week could reduce your risk of dying of a heart attack by a third or more. Doctors have long recognized through several studies that the unsaturated fats in fish, called omega-3 fatty acids, appear to reduce the risk of dying of heart disease.

Both the AHA and many doctors recommend eating more fish, however: everyone, including healthy people and heart patients, should eat at least two servings of fish per week to benefit from the omega-3 fats. “If people are taking supplements because their physician prescribed them, they should consult with their physician before stopping,” says Dr. Donna Arnett, president of the AHA and professor of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. “But I would tell them they should not stop eating fish. The results of this study are about dietary supplements. So dietary sources of omega-3s may be different than supplements. They should not assume that dietary sources are not useful.

I don’t think that. Eating fish especially oily fish which contains omega 3 fatty acids is beneficial for heart health, as it reduce the risk of heart disease and also helps to improve the survival of heart disease patient. It is found that fish helps to lower the level of fats named as triglycerides in the blood which rise the levels that increase the problem of heart disease. Not only this it is also found that fish oil helps to reduce the blood clotting and abnormal heart beats. You can easily get the fish which contains mega 3 fatty acids in mackerel, tuna, salmon, and sardines.
