Make your Locker Room/workouts RSS feeds that your Gymbuddies (or anyone for that matter) can subscribe to, based on who you allow to subscribe to your feeds.

Allow users to enter workout updates and foodupdates by posting to twitter/pownce or by SMS/IM message to Gyminee. Example: Drank 1 Beer Amster Light; or Ate 1 Apple.

Good idea.

Allow users to enter workout updates and foodupdates by posting to twitter…

I like the concept, but in practice it could be tricky. For example, there can be multiple foods with the same name, but by different manufacturers. It seems like there would have to be precise naming conventions or something for users to be able to track effectively. It’s definitely an interesting concept though.

Is there any interest in using Twitter/Pownce as an output stream for Gyminee stuff? I think it would be cool if messages went out for when users did workouts, met goals, etc.

I agree that could be hard. Maybe you only match it to a unique nickname in your favorites, or maybe it goes into a task que that the user can later go and link it to a database item

Posting to twitter would be awesome, and free marketing for Gyminee, so… it’s a win/win :)

It can show the food name with manufacturer in parentheses (but that might be a problem if the names are too long) or just append a tinyurl link to the food item name at the end.

I’d REALLY like a constantly updated RSS feed for my GymBuddy news. That’s what I keep up with most (other than the forums) to see which of my GymBuddies has done what. Pretty please!

I think we will look into posting to twitter more seriously. One issue (I think) is that Gyminee would have to ask for and store Twitter login information. We would store it responsibly of course (encrypted and all that stuff), but if there is a way to post to twitter without needing login credentials from each user, that would be ideal. Anyone experienced with doing this before?

I’d REALLY like a constantly updated RSS feed for my GymBuddy news.

We feel the need for this also. It’s one of those features that will definitely get added at some point, but has lower priority than some of the more innovative stuff we’re currently working on.

Every site that communicates with Twitter asks for that information (BrightKite, Plaxo, TwitterFone, TweetBurner, Twiddict, etc.), I think that’s just how the Twitter API operates unlike Jaiku, for example, that requires your API key rather than your password.

Thanks for the response. We’re thinking pretty seriously about adding this feature.

For those of us who don’t Twitter, can one of you who does explain how we could use this function productively? It sounds interesting, I just don’t get it. :)

I’m not sure that Twitter and productivity really go together :-) Twitter is just a great way to broadcast messages, and receive messages from people. It’s fairly unstructured, which is part of what makes it really cool.

The first step for Gyminee will be to output activity messages to twitter. My concept is that you will be able to customize the tweets that occur when you do a workout, meet a calorie goal, etc.

Inputting from something like Twitter is a whole different story.

Actually I just wrote about how twitter can be used (and useful) a couple of days ago on Fluther. There are a couple of good posts, mine are at the very bottom though.

Good news! We just added support for “tweeting” your Gyminee activity. Check out your Profile Settings to set it up.

I Lost 10 Lbs!

could it be changed so that it tweets the name of the workout you’ve just done, instead of “one of my custom workouts”?

I Lost 5 Lbs! I Burned 25K Calories! I Burned 5,000 Calories!

So a couple of questions to answer here, the 2nd is from the Gyminee blog.

could it be changed so that it tweets the name of the workout you’ve just done

If it’s a public workout then it shows the name, if it’s a custom workout, it doesn’t. This is mainly because users can make their custom workouts private in case they don’t others seeing them (for whatever reason).

does it not post the workouts that you submit to challenges?

Good question, as I haven’t even thought about that. Does anyone else know what happens if you enter your progress towards a challenge versus through your workout log?

Update: Just checked on entering progress towards a challenge. No tweets are sent for doing that right now, but I’ll look into adding that.

I was thinking it would be pretty cool if we could optionally post our tweets to a “channel” like #gyminee or #fitness. That way we could share our activity on Gyminee with twitter communities.

I posted basically the same thing over at GetSatisfaction.com: http://getsatisfaction.com/gyminee/topics/would… -

Many sites out there are now allowing you to post updates and information via Twitter shortcodes. Would be fantastic if I could write something like the following:

“d gyminee 2 servings graham cracker 130cal fat2.5g carb24g pro2g”

or

“d gyminee chipotle 3 soft tacos with chicken no sourcream”

It would make it SOOOO much easier to stay on top of a nutrition guide.

Right now, Gyminee only tweets out when you workout, when you engage in a challenge activity, when you post to the forum and when you meet a public goal. But what about your burned calories log?. After all, your calories log apear in your public profile. So I´ve designed a workarround for this using a custom Yahoo Pipe wich fetches RAW HTML from you public profile, it harvest your burned calories and then create an RSS feed wich can be redirected to twitter via twitterfeed.com. You only need to provide your Gyminee username and then you´re set to use this Pipe.

Enjoy,

I’d at least like to see the ability to subscribe to a gymbuddies journal rss feed so I can get these through my reader and not have to be on the site to catch up. I can’t imagine this would be difficult to implement.

Twitter has opened the OAuth beta for everyone just a few hours ago. It would be great if this could be used instead of saving Twitter user/pass pairs on Gyminee. :)
