I Burned 50K Calories! I Lost 10 Lbs! I Lost 5 Lbs! I Burned 5,000 Calories!

Hello,

So I’ve been using dailyburn for about 6 months or so now, and I have been using an old digital scale to measure my weight. My goal was to reach 135 pounds, and I was at about 142 last week. I just purchased a new digital scale to bring with me to college, I’ll be living in a dorm. I stepped on the new one and it read about 154! So I’m wondering if the old scale was really that far off? The last time I weighed myself was about a week ago, it couldn’t be possible that I gained 12 pounds. In this week though my grandmother passed away I have been eating terribly and haven’t exercised at all. But 12 pounds? I’m gonna try and get back on track now as I begin school, but now I feel like I’m starting over…

It’s probably a combination of gaining some weight (eating terribly and not exercising for a week will do that), and differences in the two scales (they could both be inaccurate in opposite directions).
The weight you put on in a bad week will usually come right back off in a week or so once you get back on track.
If you want to check the accuracy of your scale, your school probably has an accurate balance scale (maybe in the gym, or if not, they probably have a doctor’s office that would have one), and you could use that to check how far off your digital scales are.

I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother. Good luck with school, and everything else. Don’t be discouraged, setbacks happen, but you don’t have to let them keep you from doing the right thing.

You’ve probably put on a few pounds from the stress and poor diet, but most of it is just a difference in scales. Don’t get discouraged, it’s just a number.

I am fairly sure my scale is almost 5 pounds light, but I don’t care, my goals are based on what I weighed (on my light scale) when I started. When I reach my goal in my scale, then I will get a new one and reach my goal on that scale, but I (and you) can’t lose focus that progress is what counts!
