Hello everyone… I’ve started this new running group and it has an initiation challenge in order for you to join in. And since the group itself is private (so that you have to get invited to get in), you can’t see what’s it about. So I considered making a reference to the group and where else better than the forums. So this is what it says: “This Guild will be a place of motivation, balance and endurance. Members can challenge other members within the group. To join, you must pass an initiation challenge and then an invite can be sent… I will be making up a ranking system for challenges so that beginners can run with beginners and experienced can run with experienced… Other than that, I’ll see how it goes, as I’ve made this group for fun and expect it to be fun in return.” That’s all. :D . If you have any questions, suggestions or complaints just post here. I just thought of the idea so be nice hehe. Anyways thanks for reading and hope you join in. The initiation challenge can be found at: |

After some thought… my initial ideas are quoted below: 1) The Ranking System The ranking system within this guild is such that members can challenge other members who are within a threshold so that it can be fair. There will be 100 ranks, rank 1 being the highest. You can upgrade ranks by completing challenges or competing in challenges made by the members of The Runners Guild. 2) Creating challenges under The Runners Guild All challenges that will be included in The Runners Guild ranking system must follow this: Organiser name: The Runners Guild Organiser web address: http://dailyburn.com/forums/motivation_and_supp… The prize is up to the creator (can be nothing) There will be three types of challenge audience: 1. To the public: This type of challenge will be to the public (not private) and this invites any of the public of any skill to join in. This also promotes The Runners Guild 2. To the guild: This type will be for guild members only (private). You will probably need to make a new discussion asking who wants to join in. This is a great way to gather new motivators if everyone wants to join in as this is the only way you can be invited to that challenge. 3. To the guild(rank-based): This is the same as 2. but you can choose a threshold/boundary of rank to invite against. For instance a rank 25 member can’t join a challenge marked for ranks 40 to 50 only. As the creator of the challenge can easily check the member under the Ranking System topic. This allows fairness in the the guild and respect that others do try hard. This can also increase the chance that you win when you try your best, you deserve to be rewarded. Challenge awards rank increase When you make the challenge discussion in our guild, I will judge how many ranks you can gain by completing/competing in the challenge. Note: you cannot decrease rank Group effort increases rank |

Really cool idea! I like it! But then again, I’m an RPG junkie, so you had me at “guild” and “rank.” LOL! Unfortunately, I don’t do enough running to join but if someone wants to create a Kettlebell or weight lifting guild, I am SO THERE. |

Cool idea. I like that challenges are against people around the same level. I run relatively short distances (as runners go anyway) so there wouldn’t be any point entering a distance challenge against a group training for a marathon. |

This is a great idea! Love it! |

Hey just an update on gaining ranks within the guild——— After some more thought I’ve decided that gaining ranks should follow this sort of framework: For timed challenges: Everyone in the challenge will fall under one of these achievements:- Legendary target will be achieved by averaging 13km or more over the time period, which awards 3 ranks. Bonus aim will be achieved by averaging 10-11km over the time period, which awards 2 ranks. The primary aim will be achieved by averaging 5-9km over the time period, which awards 1 rank. For those who join but did not average more than 5km will get a participation token worth 0.2 rank (cannot have 0km ran!) For distance challenges: For extreme beginners: |

Today I reached 100 miles in a different challenge, so I decided to check on my progress here. I discovered it was 100 KILOMETERS and I had reached that a while back. I have yet to be invited to your guild. Did I take too long to amass the kilometers? I thought there was no time limit on that. I would consider myself a beginner, since I just started running a little over a year ago. Please let me know what I need to do to get invited. The idea of challenges in my own class of runners is intersting to me and I would like to participate. Thanks, Claudia |

It seems as if he is no longer active on the site. This is a great idea however, someone should pick it up and run with it. |

This is a great idea. It’s too bad it’s not happening. Anyone runner keeners out there want to start it up again? |

Just hit 100k and really disappointed this is no longer active. The idea of a private club that you have to pass a challenge to get invite into is really a great idea and motivator. |
