iPhone in the Sauna?

Discussion started by nickbsd

Subject Description

Ok, so yes at one point I was going to bring my Iphone in the Sauna/Steam room with me for 15-20 minutes daily but I've backed down-- instead of potentially ruining my iphone i've bought a shuffle. Kinda sucks though since most of my music is on my iphone and now I have to take two Mp3 players to the gym now.

Oh well. Gotta love my Iphone =D

Scared of the voices in your head?

Try using that time to let your mind settle.  Sauna is just about the best place to not have outside influence.

True true

.. but at times there are moments when you need a little DMB (Dave Mathews Band) singing in your ear to help relax and reflect on your day and future days to come.

Good call...

Those iPhones are super sensitive - either of the two would more than likely damage your iPhone voiding your warraunty and then all you would have is a really expensive paperweight. Why? Any moisture from the steamroom would most likely damage it and if you took it in for repair it would show of water damage when they opened the iPhone (it may even fog up the screen due to the moisture). If taken into the sauna the extreme heat could cause it to power down and possibly break altogether. I have an iPhone and a 80GB iPod (old school) and have always felt the urge to take it in the steam/sauna as well b/c most of the people there are either quiet or talk way too much about something completely uninteresting so it would be nice to have something to pass the time. Definitely a good idea to hold back on taking it in just to hear a few good tunes. My $0.02!

Sauna no way

I will be wrecked. Stay with the Shuffle as its flash based and should hold up longer than most devices. Yuo might want to look into the "aqua tunes" cases. They make them for all the ipods and phones. but I dont know how they would do with extended 105 degree heat

Great way to void warranty

One of the first things they check when you take your phone in for service is exposure to water. There is a piece of water sensitive litmus paper that they examine through the earphone jack. If it has changed color you are out of luck.  So taking your iPhone into a steam sauna might introduce enough vapor over time to cause a change in color.

I've taken my iphone in my infrared sauna several times and nothing ever happened to it.  The iphone has a built in safeguard for heat so if it gets too hot, it will shut itself down.  That's when you know it's too hot.
