One of the things you always see is to add extra steps to your day. I've tried wearing a pedometer, but either it's a cheap one that doesn't work well, or I don't swing my hips enough for it to register movement :)
So I was thinking of adding more stair climbing to my day, by going up and down the two flights in my building on a regular inteval.
My last job was on the 4th floor, and I got into the habit of walking down the stairs.
I think if I did the math, I may find that the over-all calorie burn is rather low. However, the simple fact of extra movement has a psychological effect that shouldn't be denied.
Sorry, I was stuck on the hip swinging visual. *ahem* Yeah, every little bit helps. If you're comfortable doing what you're doing now, add a little more, and then a little more, and before you know it, you're constantly pushing that limit out.
When you get comfortable, your body stops responding.
I try to park at the far end of the parking lot and I try to walk the whole mall once or twice when shopping. Even if I don't have to go to any stores in a certain wing of the mall... I still try to get in the extra steps. I'm a substitute teacher so I always walk up and down the rows of desks while the students are working. I also offer to help the other teachers if I have a period off by asking if they need me to run to make copies or get them a drink from the teacher's lounge. Hope those tips help.
I was thinking about taking a trip up and down the steps every time I used the bathroom. I already do some of the others, like parking further away and plan to walk once it's above 40 here.
