Check out this T-Nation article which includes a video: http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/dave_tates_sixweek_bench_press_cure.
I could improve my setup and I need to ensure that I keep my elbows from going below bench level by maintaining an arch which 1) reduces stress on shoulders and 2) decreases the distance I have to lift.
I am going to print a summary of the tips and put it on the wall in front of my rack. Already have a good one for squats.
Thanks for sharing was a great video etc and greta idea about putting the tips on your wall =] wish i had somewhere i could keep all my weights out i have them stored in dinning room and need bring them inthe living room to lift :/ lol
Just reading the article now one thing i dont do is grip the bar tight 'squeeze the shit out of it' i justget a good grib i will grip tigether and squeeze this is all really interesting and worth everyone checking it out!
thats pretty much how I do my bench, it takes me a like a mintue once I lay down to get myself position and the squeezing really does help. Gets your muscles all tensed up. I squeeze the hell outta the bar and then do a quick up pull and almost touch your forehead to the bargets all your muscles flexed. Just gotta come back down in the right position
same video as before from my "wall" but you can kinda see my routine, I also whipe my hands on my shirt to make sure they are dry to keep the bar from slipping
Ye you definitely have the technique right =] so do you do powerlifting comps ? or just train like one? cos you should if you dont already or could train for worlds strongest man kinda competition you have the strength and build
I am training for the 100% raw powerlifting federation, and the USA power lifting federation. Both have a world record of a "raw" bench press of around 420 to 440 for my weight class and age so I am hoping to set those this summer.
I tried for the 425 and got it most the way just couldnt lock it out, so I didnt count it
so after reviewing the records, I have aprox 20 days to lose 11 lbs:P I can crush toe 275 lbs bench record if I can do it, lets get her doen boys itll all be because of you
I was just looking at the Raw Powerlifting records...I think I could get the squat record for my weight and age if I worked at it. It's only 484#. Hmm.
