For love of rowing - Row, Damn It, Row - First of a series of challenges?

The whole purpose of DailyBurn is to get fit and live a healthier
lifestyle. As such, I created a rowing challenge [Row, Damn It, Row] and propose that the winner of this challenge gets to
develop the next one of which the fellow competitors are obliged to
compete in. This is an ‘honors’ system, so
competitors please join only if you are truly serious. I am sincerely
hoping that this is merely the first of a long serious of rowing
challenges… friendly competition is a good thing!

Rowing is an awesome total body workout, so it would be
great if we developed a crew of ‘hard core’ rowers who repeatedly
challenge each other – all in the name of Good Health!

ppabian - Welcome

Hey, welcome aboard - there are currently a few options for you to join in. You can become a motivator with us and join the Rowing Machine exercise program - as it allows you to compare your workout with fellow motivators. You can also partake in one of several rowing Challenges which recently started:

Row, Damn It, Row

Rowing Challenge 001

Cranky's Personal "One Million Meter" Challenge - which goes until Christmas!

OR you can devise a Challenge which works best for you and see if any other rowers may be interested as well...

I'm in!!!

I teach an indoor rowing class (Indo Row) at the Sports Club LA on water rowers. They have a tank of water for the resistance and we row 2x's per week for about 20k per week.

It is a great compliment to cycling and swimming. I love the calorie burn and the total body workout.

See you at the finish line. Are we going to post our results anywhere, or just keep track and update each other?

Awesome, thanks for joining in...

I have to agree with both you and David, rowing on the water has no comparison. However, I find the indoor rowers (particularly the Concept brand) helps define body structure and gives a reasonable semblance of a rowing workout. It's a consistent and accurate way of tracking as well.

Living on Vancouver Island means I can row outside all year long but, in reality, there are only about five or six months of "ideal" open water rowing weather and the remainder is just too unpredictable. There are too many islands (and associated channel winds); deep water (the tidal currents can average 12 knots in some areas - and that's just an average); bifurcated tidal pull; and whatnot to safely consider open water rowing for the late fall and winter months...

I am truly jealous of you folks living in warmer climates at this time of the year ...

sounds good

Cranky, it sounds good! The rest of you will probably kick my butt on the Concept II, as most of my rowing is done on the water. But I'll see if I can keep up during the cold months when rowing on water will occur once a week at best.
