Thanks for the link, as the weather warms up and I get into rowing longer distances I'm guessing that those gloves will be a great benefit.
I tried the seat cushion, as my wife complains that the longer rows hurts her butt and I can definitely relate, but prefer it without. I'd love the ability to swap Concept II's standard seat with a spring cushioned leather seat that would wear in like an old friend.
those gloves do sound interesting. I prefer not to use gloves when lifting, but I have begun using harbinger gloves with wrist wraps when benching. I have small joints, and heavier loads were starting to hurt my wrists. Those have helped a great deal, but they're a bear to take off. does anyone here have direct experience with NewGrips gloves?
Cranky, I can identify with your wife. A long row is a literal pain in the butt for me as well.
First, just to contribute, I row gloves free. No problems and I get a good sense of the handle.
Second, speaking of equipment, our club went from the concept 2 rower to the Indo Row machine which has a water tank the feel is very different and the machine is comfortable and gives a great workout with a real water sound.
I use my NewGrip gloves everytime I get on the erg or lift weights these days. The nice thing is that they get out of the way quickly if I don't want them, and my hands don't overheat or get sweaty like they would in normal gloves.
I also just got a seat pad from C2 and used that on my HM the other day. It definitely helped, though I may look for MORE padding, or to adjust that padding.
Of the equipment I use on the erg or cycling or running the best thing I have is my heart rate monitor. Although, I can use the split time to show how hard I'm working the HRM really tells me and coaches me to make sure that the training session is beneficial.
I think that I am going to buy the C2 Heart Rate Monitoring Receiver and Polar Wearlink soon. I really want to be able to monitor my heartrate, especially for the marathon training.
I had one, and loved it - but lost it when we moved a couple years ago. I guess my only grip is the Polar chest monitor, took a little while getting used to it and it would start to smell (from the sweat) if you didn't clean it well. At that time, my wife was more into the indoor rowing than me and she loved it as and added comparison when she competed with her previous rows. It really worked great, just had to make sure your tidy up the wires from the reciever. Polar makes a great product.
