Walking/Jogging/Running

I have been trying to jog and/or walk, but my shin splints have been getting in the way of my success. My new focus has been on stretches to help my muscles in my legs and have ordered the Chi walking book, to see if I can improve my form.

I love walking and hiking

I live in Greensboro, NC. A bit of our local tax money supports a fantastic, varied system of greenways and trails, something little advertised around here. I sure know about them! I exercise a lot, including resistance (weight) training. But my favorite is to walk, sometimes with spurts of HIIT running. Winer is coming, and I recently bought a Wii Fit+. it's kind of fun to run along with it, trying to overtake the trainer avatar. And of course I always post my calorie, etc. data to Daily Burn!

Sticking to It

I go through phases where I run everyday for a several weeks, but then stop for several weeks and then repeat. But I do keep up the walking - I burn at least around 150cals, or 10,000 steps worth to maintain a regular activity level. There's also plenty of commute-biking that I do. This is all on top of my weight-lifting regime.

Awesome!

I think most of us start out walking and gradually get in to running. Runnings too hard at first.

This is a good program for getting in to running gradually:

Also, we are trying to use our messageboard as an online support group for weight loss.

I do! I walk about 2.5 miles a day on average. I may work up to jogging, but um, I have too many jiggly bits lol.
