Subject Description

Just curious as to what bike everyone has and what type of terrain you guys are riding.

I have a Trek 3700 with all Shimano Deore and SRAM, Bontrager Wheels, and Rockshox Recon on the front. I ride mostly very fast, hilly terrain with a few techinical areas (bridges, foot drops, etc.) thrown in.

What Bike?

Mine is a Trek 6000.  I bought it at the end of October and got to ride it about 4 times before it got too cold and snowy.  I've been rocking the road bike on the few days that it's close to 40 degrees, and I can't wait to get onto the trails in the spring.

couple

My '09 DH Race Rig is a '07 Cove Shocker-DH pretty nice setup, Roco WC coil w/Ti spring, Boxxer WC fork, Avid Codes, SRAM X.9 derailleur/X.0 Shifter, e13 SRS, Maxxis tires, Sun-Ringle Wheelset(probably going to swap the rims for Mavic x823s),bunch of truvativ parts, that I'm probably going to switch over to sunline(one of my sponsors).

For XC rides I have a '04 Trek Liquid, Pike 454, Fox rear shock, Sun-Ringle Str8-line wheelset, Kenda tires, older Shimano XT drivetrain, Avid BB7s, thomson seatpost, WTB seat, not too fancy but gets the job done..

For 4X/Dual Slalom/Messing around I have a Commencal Absolut 4X, Marzocchi 4x Fork, WTB saddle, thomson seatpost, gripshift X.0 Drivetrain, E13 LG-1, Avid Juicy 7's, Gold answer protapers, I run the STR8 lines from my xc bike when racing 4x/dual slalom, and atomlab wheels when doing some street riding..

All-in-One Fun

I've got two mountain bikes: a 2005 Turner 6Pack, SRAM x9 all around, Juicy 7s, Zoke 66 up front, PUSH'd DHX in back, Maxxis High Roller 2.5 in front, Panaracer Rampage 2.3 in back. I use this bike for everything: XC to AM to light Freeride. Going to try a DH run this summer at Willamette Pass resort. Saving up for a DW-Link Turner Sultan.

My other bike is a 2002 Giant Rainier hardtail that has been converted to a commuter bike, with a 1 x 9 setup.

Correction...

I have a 4700 not 3700. Not that it matters much, but I thought accuracy to be important.

Side note: I want a turner. Badly.

I dont know what youd call mine, it was sold as a Dimondback DBX Race but the internet doesnt have any mention of this bike. Anywho, its a hardtail cross country bike. It has Rockshox tora 302's, mavic xm317 rims on deore hubs, Mostly deore drivetrain with sram shifters and gear mechs and hayes stroker ride 160mm brakes. Ive got gusset inca pedals on it.

Its not a hugely expensive bike but the frame is solid and the components are pretty reliable for what i do so i like it.

Only managed to get on it yesterday for the first time in two months due ot illness! 25km totally took it out of me.

I have a Fuji Nevada 3.5, which is also not on the Internet (except for when I talk about it).  It's basically the Fuji Police Patrol bike with the police labels stripped off.

Fairly low-end parts, but I purchased it after my last bike didn't even last a year before it was stolen, so I was kinda scared to buy anything higher-end.  I've already replaced the rear wheel after breaking 4 spokes.  Everything else I'm kinda waiting for it to start looking flakey before I upgrade.

Best police part is the rear hub.  It's silent, so I can really sneak up on people with it.

The brakes are up next for upgrade.  The pads are worn out and I can't find a PDF manual online, which I decided is a good way to declare that a part is a bargan basement part of questionable quality, so I just ordered some new Avid V-brakes.  I've decided that, after riding in the rain and the mud, disc brakes are fairly optional and not worth the trouble.

Although the idea of replacing the big ring with a 44 instead of a 42 comes to mind, as does getting a front fork with lockout (which is hard, given that it needs to be a good XC fork with lockout without heavy maintenence requirements that has only about 80mm travel that I feel like spending money on).

I'm currently experimenting about what's the least rolling resistance tires one can put on a XC oriented bike without losing the ability to go off-road.  I'm down to a 1.5" slick-with-grooves-so-you-won't-call-it-a-slick in back and a 1.75" tire with a little tread but no knobs in front.

Giant

I've got a 2004 giant VT-2.  Bought it off eBay in 2005 for $400.  It's been a great bike and has held up well.  I get it tuned at the shop once a year and notice a major difference each time.  Maybe I should tune it more often.
