I've played WoW since '05 and have given up on giving up on it. My boyfriend's dragged me into playing a few games like L4D2 and Runescape (neeeeerd!!), but that can be the worst part - having an SO encouraging you to spend your free time gaming instead of working out. :P I've tried everything from LoTRo to AoC to Rift, etc, and have always been a Sims fan of course. Here's to Sims 4 being online. ;D Truth is I'm always going to want to game, especially with my boyfriend, but learning to balance gaming out with everything else makes it that much more enjoyable when you feel you've earned it.

I'm a recovering MMOer. After getting far too involved with someone I met in that world and having it not go so well, I decided to stick with the single player games and get my human interaction face to face.

As for what I played in those days, primarily Asheron's Call 2 and WoW, though I dipped in and out of a few others.

On strategy based games I have been into and finished Command&Conquer (the first one on PS one, Red Alert on PC, Tiberian Sun), WoW (the original one the was a strategy game on PS one, not the MMO onling RPG), Age of Empires I and II with expansion, Age of Mythology, Empire Earth, and online I played Shadowmere and Utopia.

MMORPG's uh, freebies only. Tibia, Runescape, Priston Tale, Conquer online, Knights Online, PiStory and Legend of Martial Arts from Perfect World.
Currently stopped playing due to falling asleep at work. Also played COD MW2 on PS3.

League of Legends

Looks like this thread has been inactive for a while, but thought I'd throw something out there. I was a hard core wow player (raiding 16-20 hours a week), but have backed off and just play casually once in a while with friends.

One of them pointed me to League of Legends (LoL, get it?) which is free. It isn't really like wow, although it has some of the same ideas. The good thing about it is that games are short 1/2 to 1 hour, at most, and you just get in, play, and get out. There is character advancement, but it really doesn't matter the way it does in wow, so there isn't so much pressure.

I used to play Eve Online a lot, sometimes as much as 16 hours a day. Now I'm a developer myself and only train skills.

I tried WoW (for about 8 hours, then the boredom was too much to endure), Ultima Online, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, a couple of MUDs and several browser-based games like Utopia.

Still playing LOTRO, it's a nice, relaxed game with a detail-rich world and solid gameplay.

I'll probably try out SW:TOR just because I want to kill Jedis.

My first MMORPG was Everquest, but I didn't really get into them until I played Anarchy Online. The players were so social that I finally discovered what roleplaying could be with a computer. It is so much fun to immerse yourself in another world and project yourself as some character that you've dreamed up.

I was addicted to MMORPGs for a long time, through high school and college, and there are some days where I still become absentminded and spend way too much of my day on the computer. But now that I'm older, it is easier and easier to pull myself away from the computer. At one point, I thought I had a serious problem and needed help. Luckily enough, it feels like I just grew out of it.

Now I play very casually and pay close attention to make sure I don't neglect my other responsibilites (ie. two cats I love dearly, my boyfriend, proper food preparation, time for exercise, housework, and getting enough sleep to be productive at work).

I'm currently playing Fallen Earth that is in the early access stage until September 22. It feels like Fallout 3, but an MMORPG. I have been waiting and waiting for a decent MMO to come out with a setting I feel I relate to. Fallen Earth is definitely that.

RE: MMORPGS

I've played Warcraft for 6 hours total (though it was all at one time, haha). What sucks is that I know I can't really start playing and allow myself to get sucked into the game, as much as I may want to, if only because there's just too much going on right now to let myself blow too much time on the computer (as I sit here playing on gym forums).

I keep telling myself as soon as I settle down in my own place, my fiance moves in, we both have jobs and are finally comfortable-ish, we'll set up a dual station with nice rigs and big flatscreen monitors and nerd it out with WoW.

Until then, my Tauren fem-warrior will have to wait to be born. lol
