Work out Music

Discussion started by Ishy

Subject Description

Does anyone have certain music they listen to when they are working out? I have a very random list of music that keeps me pretty well motivated.

My workout music

My workout music is also very random, but I like to keep it high energy to keep me pumped up.  Also, I'm not good at picking/choosing, so it has 90 songs at the moment, lol.

I usually just listen to the TV. The pundits get me worked up more than any music ever did.

Rage

Rage Against the Machine always gets me motivated at the gym. But lately I've been mixing it up with some of my other music as well as Pandora on my iPhone...and I have my FitDeck Mobile workout (aka nexFIT - at nexFIT.com) right there on my phone as well!

Never Back Down

I find a lot of the tracks on the Never Back Down soundtrack good for boxing workouts. Some of them are good for intervals too

Recently I've taken to listening to The Beatles "1" when out jogging - not particularly motivational music, but it sets the perfect running rhythm for me, lets me completley zone out.

80's music just really does it for me. :-)  Good driving rock anthems make running almost easy.

I could row for miles on Michael Jackson "Black or White".

My top pick for a slower jog: Most of the Bee Gees.

And for something slightly more recent you can't go past Nickelback.  I can push the mental barrier for that 30 minute run (tough for me!!) almost every time with "Savin' Me".

Music selection..

I tend to listen to rock music, stuff that has a lot of screaming guitar and pounding drums.

Tangerine

I'm a mac-geek. (since 85).

My favorite 'music-toy' ATM is Tangerine, which basicallly, after a couple of params* are set, creates sets/playlists from one's iTunes' library that are pretty much spot on.

* Length/Duration of playlist, Beats per Minute, and Beat Intensity.

Daft Punk and iTunes+Genius

I have found that with repetition I like songs with words less and less for working out.  I have been listening to a lot of Daft Punk (techno), and found a DJ I really like (Digiki, his "Polypunk" feed is at http://www.maudevintage.com/castellane/digiki/polypunk/polyfeed.xml).

Following the post about Tangerine, the 8.x release of iTunes has built-in the Genius app, which takes a base song a generates a playlist out of what you have available a la Pandora.  It keeps me from getting into a rut.

It's gotta be loud

The music they play in the gym is horrid.  I have pretty eclectic musical tastes but for lifting I usually load the rock n' roll or something loud enough to drown out the gym music.  Lately it has been really heavy stuff.  I loaded The Ocean, Intronaut, Neurosis, The Sword, Shadows Fall & Irreversible last night.
