Riding Outside

Discussion started by MLewey

Subject Description

Hey guys, I'm looking for a little help.  Last fall, I was coming back in from a long ride and was run off the road by a school bus.  Pretty nasty fall, but was able to walk my way back home.  Considering that I was out riding by myself, things could have been much, much worse.  I spent all winter on an indoor trainer, and finally got up the nerve to take my husband out for a short ride yesterday.  Any time a vehicle would pass, I would completely freeze up.  Any hints or suggestions for getting over this?  The local traffic barely tolerates runners, but seems to take pleasure in targeting our rather large biking community!

Thanks,

M

Wow, I've never been hit by a car (knock on wood), but I can imagine how hard it might be to go out after such an accident.

I know that I fell a couple of times and that already scares me to go back or when I feel the road is slipery so I can only imagine how scary it must be for you.

Unfortunately I don't know what you can do besides trying to get out and trying to feel a little bit better each time and rebuild your confidence step by step.

I always try to get to places where there aren't too many cars and were traffic is light.

Good luck to you, I really hope you can get over your fears, I'm sure that as time goes by you'll enjoy riding again.
