Triathletes - Base II Half Ironman Training

Hey everyone,

I am officially entering the Base II phase of my 70.3 training plan. I always leave Base I very unstructured and lift weights more than I do cardio to build strength and prevent boredom. I mix in at least one long run each week during Base I, and go to spin class or swim when I feel like it. I find that this prevents over-training and mental exhaustion as I get closer to my A race.

Base II is where I start to get structured - the Boulder 70.3 is 5 mo. and 6 days away! For Base II, I keep core strength workouts (2 days per week) and weight train one day a week. Also, I do double sessions 3 days per week during Base II to fire up my enthusiasm.

Who else is training for a long course tri right now?

Hi Kate,
I'm doing pre-base training for the Bustinskin 70.3

My race specific plan doesn't start until the 1st May. At the moment I am doing the following each week:

Bike hill intervals, long bike, and recovery bike sessions.
Two hours of freestyle swimming plus a 45 mins drill session.
Run speed intervals, Long run, and recovery run sessions.
Yoga.
Bodyweight exercises.

I intend to use a HI plan from Matt Fitzgerald's book of triathlon plans.
