MetaFilter - Stupid carbs

I'm finding that I can keep the calories and fat within my preset limits, but I always exceed my carb allotment - mostly through fruit and whole grain bread. I don't know how much this matters in the long run, as I am losing some weight, but it's frustrating to keep seeing that yellow warning icon at the end of the day. Do we need to limit carbs if we don't exceed calories?

If you're going to go over on carbs and you're getting them from fruits and whole grains, that's better than if it came from donuts and Wonder Bread.

I find I lose weight and keep my glucose under control if I try to restrict my carbs -- those yummy refined carbs. I actually need to eat more fruit.

Carbs

Boy, this is a topic that can start fights among the workout crowd. In all the reading I've done, there's no conclusive answer - about half the literature says carbs are the problem, half says it's calories first then carbs.

I know that in my experience, the fewer carbs I eat the more weight I lose, and minimizing carbs makes it possible to pay slightly less attention to calorie count. But that may be just me.
