Home GymOver the years I've managed to get all the things I need from a gym at Home. Its just a standard sized garage, but in amongst the motorbikes, work bench and tools, I've got:- Concept 2 (pushed to one side to create floor space) Atac cycle trainer (which folds up and the bike goes on the ceiling when not being used) Climbing wall Heavy punch bag, Weights bench (and 150Kg of steel weights) 3 sets of dumbells Pull up and dips bars and a couple of 'lats' machines on opposite walls. With putting my family first, I found it difficult to spend the time getting to the gym (from door to door 2.5 - 3 hours including travel, changing, etc). This way I get to train in hour blocks whenever I want. Its not for everyone, but it works for me. Posted by keithcasson on Dec. 19, 2007 at 08:38AM |

My GymI'm a member of a gym local to me, FX Leisure. It's part of a small chain and has a decent level of equipment. There's plenty of cardio machines and a good selection of machine weights. Unfortunately, there's a lack of space for free weights so when I'm working out it's often crowded and I have to wait for a bench. Compared to other local gyms though, it's well priced and has a good blend of equipment. Posted by unbattyboy on Feb. 10, 2008 at 08:53AM |

My GymMy gym is Fitness First in Belfast, its quite good, lots of equipment and lots of space, although it can get crowded after christmas or after promotions that they do from time to time... I find going in the early morning is better than going at night if you want to avoid the masses :) Posted by johnktaylor on Apr. 10, 2008 at 03:38AM |

My Works GymI am pretty lucky - where I work has a small "free" gym. 2 treadmills, 2 cycle machines, 2 cross-trainers, a rowing machine and 2 steppers. PLUS - free weights (up to 1.25kg to 25kg plates) and an assortment of dumbbells 2.5kg to 35kg. Also, a machine shoulder press/flye/bench press and lat pulldown. As I have a young family I cannot afford the time (or money) for a gym membership. (hankies out to wipe away the tears) Hence this is ideal for me. I use it some lunchtimes and I am "allowed" 2 late nights at the gym a week. Whoopee! I am thinking about building a squat/power cage at home plus buying some free weights. There again, I say these things but spend years thinking about them. Oh well. Posted by D_Lifter on Apr. 13, 2008 at 04:18PM |

Starter Home GymWell, I did buy a few bits and pieces. I bought a secondhand cross-trainer/bike for £20 - used it several times already. And I scoured eBay and bought a bench and some weight plates and dumbbell spindles, etc. Even bought the Hammerite to tart the plates up a bit when I get around to it. I have only used these for "lighter" stuff such as rotator cuff exercises, some bicep, tricep and back work when I've missed my session at the Work's Gym.
I'm still looking at building a power cage though... (Just nowhere to put it!) Posted by D_Lifter on Jun. 06, 2008 at 05:12PM |

Virgin Active...A tad expensive but well worth it considering i can use basically all of them...unfortunately not at the same time, that would be pretty impressive. Posted by zeedotme on Jun. 08, 2008 at 06:31PM |

I use the local council gym that is tacked on to the swimming pool, so membership allows me to swim or gym as I feel the need. I'm wondering about bumping up my membership to include the sauna so I can use the sauna at lunch times.
When I was in Holland I used a health club, as it was the only place in cycling distance with a pool. It had a great sauna/steam room complex, a lovely warm pool for cooling off in, and a huge range of classes. I paid 120 euros for three months, but that didn't include peak hours. Still, it was wonderful and I was unemployed, I use to end up spending about 4 hours a day there! Posted by pewteredout on Jun. 09, 2008 at 05:24AM |

My gym is......The Sports Training Village at Bath Uni. It's used by a lot of the elite athletes training for events like the Olympics, as well as Bath rugby team. And mere mortals like me! Posted by ckl on Aug. 09, 2008 at 03:48PM |

GLL in Hammersmith. It's cheap compared to the ones around here (Virgin Fitness, etc) and because it's not popular, it's very quiet - a big plus for me :) Posted by Massif on Aug. 22, 2008 at 07:52AM |
