About Me
Homeschooling six kids, and loving it. But need to take care of my own health and well-being to be strong and healthy as I approach "a certain age".

Hey
I like that you are focusing on the good of the past couple of years. Our health is much more than just losing weight. The weight loss is a perk. Keep up the great work!!!

Weight
I've been on DailyBurn for a little over two years now. During that time my weight has fluctuated a little--started at 208, lowest was 193, and now I am at 200. (I also had lost about 15 pounds before I began.) I don't feel that a net loss of 8 pounds over two years is good progress, but there are a couple of things I can take into account. One is that during these two years I began exercising regularly and building muscle, which probably offsets some of the fat loss, since muscle is heavier. I believe this does play some part, because I am down a couple of sizes. Also, I am stronger and more flexible. I feel better, and have more energy. I sleep better, and don't have as much problem with things like numbness in my hands when I wake up. The other thing for me to take into account is that if I hadn't been paying attention to my health and trying to lose weight during this time (ages 47 to almost 50), I most likely would have gained some weight, rather than losing 8 pounds. Because the natural tendency, as our metabolism slows down, is to gradually put pounds on. So I can feel good that I didn't gain, but did lose some. But I am frustrated because I want to lose significantly more. I think this new eating pattern is moving me in the right direction, and I also have to step up the exercise, as I mentioned before. (I haven't done that yet, because I am involved in serious house decluttering that takes a lot of my time and energy right now.) Well, I will just keep making the effort and I know I can get there eventually! My daughter wants to do a lot of physical activity this summer, like skating, biking, swimming, walking, trying new sports, dance classes, etc., and I plan to do a lot of it with her.

Thank you
It is a slow process, but a rewarding one in so many ways. I know that I still have a long road ahead of me, but it is a road that I am able to stay on. If this was the only thing in my life that I had to deal with and the only thing to concentrate on, it might be a different story. But, like you and so many others, we have many things that we have to juggle during the day. We just have to make sure that our health is one of those things that is in the mix. I can't say that I have mastered it, but I learn more each day. I can say I am a healthier me today than I was yesterday.

So far so good
I am enjoying the food and not really missing the coffee at this point. I want to start weighing myself to see whether these changes are having an impact in that way. Also looking forward to seeing if there is any effect on my cholesterol. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hey
Wow, that is a big change. How are you liking it? I don't know that I could give up coffee, yet. However, I have cut my creamer in half and I am still enjoying my coffee. When you are eating healthily and exercising, you don't have to record your food. It sounds as if you have a handle on things. Good for you!!!
