Low Carb
I'm experimenting with a low carb diet. I did an old variation of Atkins several years ago and dropped a lot of weight. However, a lot of people were concerned about whether or not Atkins allowed you to lose weight while being detrimental to your heart. This version, "the new Atkins", seems a lot healthier. The program includes a lot more leafy greens and other foods generally associated with being helpful. Really, instead of being thought of as "high fat" its actually just a diet where you eat as little refined carbohydrates as possible. I don't think many people would disagree with the fact that baked goods, candy, and other foods with high carb content should be avoided if you're trying to lose weight. I've only been on the diet for about a week, but I am steadily (and somewhat rapidly) dropping pounds.

School
Bought a membership to my school's gym today, and reading through The New Rules of Lifting. Hopefully I'll have a gym schedule for myself by Monday.

First days of the challenge
Things have been going relatively smoothly so far. I had a minor surgery on my foot today, and I hope it doesn't interfere with my exercise goals. If nothing else, I'll lift weights regularly. I also think it will be easier to stick to my diet/workout goals once I'm up at school, because I'll have a somewhat set schedule. I have had a little bit of "junk" lately, mostly when I go out with my girlfriend. She can eat whatever she wants and never gains weight. She knows I need to stay away from stuff like that though, and has said she'll try to be better about not asking me to go places where she knows I'll be tempted to eat things I shouldn't. As far as my meals in general, they've been much better. Lean protein, lots more vegetables, far less fatty foods.
