bad day for nutrition
Well I didn't eat well at all today- started out great but fell apart at lunch and had two diet cokes along with a yeast roll from Dickeys. Guess there goes the fast- gotta start over tommorow. I can tell you the two culprits- too much time between meals (I was starving) and emotional let down (depressed so I had a soda). I wanted something to make me happy and so I had carbs, fat and artificial sweetners-a year ago, this meal would have been healthy to me and now-I'm sickened at how quickly I wilted. Well, I guess tommorow is a new day. Time to start afresh and try again. Five days till race day.

Title...
Going on week 3 on my fast for church which is really the eat clean diet stripped pretty much- not much oil, homemade dressing (if any), no dark chocolate, no cheese at all (really miss that) and no diet soda. I want to cut down on the zero carb monster drinks too. I have cheated a little once or twice but over all I'm doing well. The diet soda addiction had to be broken as I realized it wasn't doing anything to help me and I was helplessly addicted to the chemicals in it. After five days of detox my body finally went into rebellion and I had a horrible two and a half day headache that ended with a marathon trip to the bathroom. Once that was over the headache finally broke and it has pretty much stayed away. I still have coffee and tea and occasionally a zero carb monster but not nearly as bad as I use too. Trying new things like stevia soda and green teas from Whole foods to satisfy my cravings for something similar to diet soda. I seemed to lose a lot of weight after my three day headache and then gained most of it back so I don't know if it was just water weight I lost or I gained muscle since I have worked out since then several times. I'm hoping it's muscle since my clothes fit the same. Oh well, at least I'm healthier even if I don't lose weight. Big race next week for me- my first 5k. I'm excited but nervous. I ran 5 miles today but had to take two one minute walk breaks after the 3.1 mile mark. Still, I guess for a former chubette/non-athlete 5 miles is nothing to sneeze at. My legs are starting to get sore and I'm guessing tommorow there will be some real pain but it's worth it to know I can push myself past the previous limit of distance and run over an hour. In July I couldn't even run two minutes without wanting to pass out.

New Year, New goals
Haven't lost any weight but lost more body fat which means I'm gaining muscle. I have been weight training for a month now. It's hard but I like doing it. It's fun making lessons for myself. I gotta becareful because it can become obsessive. I ran 4 miles for the first time last Thursday and walked 10 miles in one day for the first time in my life (my calves are feeling it!). I'm having a hard time keeping a calorie defecit even though I excercise and lately I've been craving food late at night- not good. Not bad food- just more calories. Sometimes it depends when my hormones are working. I created two new recipes from Oxegan Magazine and researched changing my career to personal trainer since I love the gym so much. One day I will be a nutritional therapist, run a trialothon and change people's lives through my own life. I am holding on to that dream.

challenging myself
This week has been tough. It's Christmas time and the challenge is not to eat all the crap that is put in front of my face every time I walk into a store or look around me. Another challenge is forcing myself to work out when I really want to go to parties and socialize. I have managed to stay on track work out wise with at least four days of work outs, eat healthy for seven days in a row (no cheat days) and stay positive at the gym. I have started weight training, something I was afraid of and I am starting to like it. It's challenging to know whether to focus on the weight training or long distance running but having it done it the past two weeks and succeeded. I have lost 74 lbs total and I'm still losing. The weight is coming off slowly but surely and I'm not looking back at my old life.
