    The Abs are becoming visible

At long last, the abs are visible! Perhaps not so much so when I am exhaling, but definitely there when I flex, and clearly visible when I am on an incline/partial crunch. Finally, I can see what I am after.... Now I only need to keep this up for a little while longer before I decide whether it is worth keeping them! :)

    Hungry Eyes

I was very very hungry this weekend. No matter what I did, I was hungry. So, I ate. I was careful about what I ate, but I did not deny myself. It is important to have high calorie days once in a while, and I figured my body was sending me a signal it was best not to ignore after a prolonged (if modest) calorie deficit. I only have 10 more fat pounds to lose before I start ramping up my calories and adding muscle. I am very excited to start phase two, but it is going to be a while before those fat pounds are burned.

    My withings friend....

I am maintaining a modest calorie deficit and losing scale weight, but the withings measurements show that I am gaining as a % bodyfat instead of losing. I am getting ready to ignore these readings completely and instead rely upon the navy method which currently shows me at 16.5% bodyfat instead of 20.2%. For some reason Withings really wants to keep me at 20% body fat, although it occasionally drops downt to 17 or 18.

    Missed my morning workout

Our son was up and crying from 2 to 3 this morning, so I reset my alarm to allow me an extra hour's sleep at the cost of my morning weightlifting. Tonight I will make up the missed session before I go to sleep. And tomorrow morning, assuming I get to sleep through the night, I am back to Spartacus. I am holding steady at 2 circuits in 40 minutes. Even though the plan is for 3 circuits, I am going to hold off on making that effort until I can either get it done in 40 minutes or until I've hit a plateau on my fat loss. I am pretty sure that if I flex my stomach, I am seeing the beginnings of a two-pack. It may just be that my original goal seeing my abs by the end of September is not going to be that far off. It may not actually happen until December, but I'll be thrilled if it happens any time over the next 12 months!

    I am Spartacus

Well, on my second attempt of the Spartacus workout I did another two circuits, but this time with my HRM. It showed a burn of 400 calories in about 40 minutes. It is hard to judge calorie burn when lifting weights, expecially when there are a lot of floor exercises inbetween. My heart rate drops dramatically when I am not standing up. But I can say that 400 calories feels about right. More importantly, I feel really good after doing the work out. I think it is a great way to do cardio with weights. It is like one big superset of 10 exercises. I may rest a little longer than intended, but it is only because I don't want to drop dead in my basement.
