donnyj's Journal
went to karate last night
went golfing yesterday and then went to friday night class and had a good workout. i didn't sleep well last night so i am not going class this morning.

went to karate last night
had a great workout with an 8th who just happened to show up. he is a recently retired guy who is now focusing a lot of his free time on okinawan karate and class last night was awesome! it was felt like i was back in okinawa. i am so spoiled. i pretty much have to different 8ths and a 7th available to work with...today is golf and more karate tonight. i will probably end up doing more teaching than anything tonight. i will try to internalize what i learned last night

wednesday
did 3 miles on the elliptical and the knee isn't hurting. been doing kata and what i guess i call karate weights...bought some small sledge hammers a while ago and have been doing kata while holding those and going really slow. talk about a painful burn trying to keep good form and posture. ankle weights and wrist weights help too, but i have to be careful to go slow. no sense is ruining another joint. i think i will jump on the scale tomorrow to see how i am doing, but my guess is that i am still in the same ballpark. :-(

went to karate tonight
needed to workout tonight. i went to a free boxing class at my gym last night and i knew after class two things...one) i can't box it is just too counter-intuitive and two) it is a really good workout. after karate tonight i realized that i can incorporate a few things from the boxing class into my workout regime, but boxing reinforces too many "bad" habits for me to continue. it was a great workout, but just not for me. i also learned i can't jump rope to save my life.
