I dropped 1.6 pounds between yesterday and today, and on a body that usually weighs between 124 and 128, that's a lot to lose in 24 hours. There is a reason behind it, and it's that reason that also means I'll probably gain most of that pound and a half back today. I got food poisoning yesterday and lost my entire dinner last night. Ugh. Anyway, to my progress for the day: 1. I'm staying home from work today, and I don't have any treats planned for the day, so that still leaves me at 4 left for the week. 2. At home, there's no dairy, so there won't even be any temptation. Not only that, but even if I were at work, I can't imagine wanting to consume something that would make me sick again. 3. Not really applicable, since I'm not in the office today, but if I do go out and take the bus, I'll get off early or just skip the bus and ride my bike instead.

    1. I instituted the Great Apple Takeover yesterday (bought a peck of apples, put them in the glass bowl, and dumped all the candy in the paper bag where you couldn't see it), but that only lasted as long as the apples. When they were gone this afternoon, my boss dumped the candy right back in the bowl. Boo. Now I'm tempted every time I walk past. Grrrrr. I haven't eaten any treats today, and I don't have any plans to, so I'm still at 4 left for the week. 2. I haven't had any dairy today either. But all the tempting stuff in that bowl is milk chocolate. Grrr again! 3. Check. I'm feeling good about the little changes, and I'm excited about the ones for next week. My weight is still steadily the same (this is weird...I know everyone says your weight fluxuates from day to day, but mine doesn't. It's been precisely 126.6 every day for the last two weeks.), but my period could be to blame for the lack of loss in spite of the change in diet (I was eating at least 3 or 4 candies/treats a day). I'm not sure. I think I'm going to track my periods too, to see if they make a difference in my weight from month to month.

    1. Second (and last) donut from the cider mill today, so that's 3 treats down and 4 left. I'm still doing really well walking past the candy. I've been thinking about getting a cookie tin (complete with lid) to put that candy in instead of the glass bowl, then bringing in healthy snacks like homemade nut and dried fruit trailmix or apples to put on the table with the candy. I also think I'm going to ask my coworkers about their feelings about the candy bowl. Maybe I can get rid of it altogether. 2. The donut. After this, it's over. Woohoo! 3. I walked down the block a stop before getting on the bus yesterday afternoon and got off a stop early too. Today, I remembered and got off two stops early. Yay!

    1. I had chips yesterday and I'll be eating a cider mill donut today, so that's 2 down and 5 left. Yesterday, a bunch of my coworkers brought in Halloween candy, and there was apple pie and cookies, and I managed to walk past all of it, even though Twix is my greatest weakness. Today when I came in and saw that bowl, I visualized a huge monster made out of candy growing out of the bowl. Not so appetizing after that. :) 2. I didn't consume any dairy yesterday, although after looking at the ingredients list for my planned indulgence for today (that donut), I discovered that it has non-fat milk and sweet dairy whey in it. Boo. I had no idea donuts had dairy in them! I'm eating it (and the one I have planned for tomorrow) anyway, since I've already got them and there's no way I'm giving them away, but after those two, I'll be more vigilant about checking ingredients. 3. Totally forgot to do this again. During my lunch break, I'm going to make up for it by taking a walk down the block to the stop before mine and back again. I will remember on the way home!

    Monday, October 31, 2011 - Small Changes Week 1

I love my body. It's pretty, it's functional, and it's mine. I deserve to take the time to show myself and my body some self-love by fueling my body better and strengthening it. I've been neglecting myself, feeding my body crappy food and keeping it sedentary. Poor body. Poor me! Beginning today, I'm going to make some small changes in my habits every week, three small things each week. This week: 1. I'll be limiting my fatty foods/treats to 7 a week (includes chips, fries, sweets, etc.). 2. I will cut dairy out of my diet entirely (I'm allergic, and my poor body really can't handle all the dairy I've been putting into it and all the Benadryl I've taken to counteract the effects). 3. I will get off the bus a stop early and walk the rest of the way (didn't do this this morning, but I will this afternoon and every bus ride to follow).
